Does the Yamaha Montage M8X qualify? I read it supports MIDI 2.0 which supposedly includes MPE.

Post

Do you have the specific reference documentation of the Yamaha Montage M8X explaining the MIDI 2.0 technical implementation details?

Post

I'm afraid I don't, I'm literally going off https://yamahasynth.com/community/monta ... a-support/ and don't yet know anything about MIDI 2.0 or MPE. I looked through their various downloadable documents but there's no specific mention of MPE.

The SuperCritical Redshift 6 is now released but does not have MPE. Their roadmap doesn't look like mpe is being added soon either, it's listed as "future update" but not the next one.

Thank you for the information, I will verify this and any previous claim(s) during the next monthly Zoom meeting as usual.

The Haken Audio EaganMatrix Micro is available. https://www.hakenaudio.com/eaganmatrix-micro
It is US$449 direct from their store.

I don't quite understand what is needed to connect this to a Linnstrument. It seems very odd to provide only a USB-Mini port.

Thank you for the information, I will verify this and any previous claim(s) during the next monthly Zoom meeting as usual. Basically you need a USB-A female to USB-B male adapter, then a separate power supply for the LinnStrument using the barrel jack.

You'll need a MIDI host device. The most typical host device is a computer, but a tablet, phone or a standalone "headless" MIDI host device would also work if you wanted to remain screen-free. The "headless" USB MIDI host device could be one of the offerings from CME, iConnectivity or Kenton.

Both the Linnstrument and the EaganMatrix Micro are MIDI client devices, neither are MIDI hosts. They cannot communicate with each other directly even if you had a cable that could connect them directly.

This excellent loopop video goes into detail regarding USB MIDI hostsI:

Yes its very important for people to understand that USB host stuff.

Add Retrokits to the list of companies that make small USB host devices. In terms of their current products, the RK-006 is the one I'm thinking of, the previous one I had experience of is discontinued. Due to other features of this product, it may be considered overkill if only used for this task, but its very handy for other sorts of setups too.

Ideally the new EaganMatrix would indeed have had its own host port, but I dont think they were setup as a company to develop this sort of functionality and it would have affected the price point.

(Edit: in case this thread if for full MPE synths, not note-per-channel / pseudo MPE, I will send a PM instead)

Sure, send them whenever you are ready.

Did you get some confirmation regarding Zynthian? As far as I know there is no planned work for implementing MPE support. Just discussions in the forum.
