Live 12 Beta Release Notes
12.1.5b1 Release Notes
October 18, 2024
New features and improvements:
Updated the design of the Hot-Swap Sample and Swap to Previous/Next Similar Sample buttons in Simpler and Drum Sampler.
- Drum Rack presets will no longer be excluded from the Sounds label.
- Drum Rack and Drum Sampler presets tagged with "Sounds|..." will no longer be shown in the Drums label.
Selecting a large number of track headers in the Session or Arrangement View is now faster.
"Scale" filter is now available even if Scale Mode is turned off.
Changed the Info View header for Help View's home button from "Lessons Start Page" to "View All Lessons".
Improved software text for sidechain buttons in Auto Filter, Compressor, Glue Compressor, Gate and Multiband Dynamics .
In Auto Shift, the MPE pitch bend will now use 48 semitones range.
Items tagged with "Devices|Drums" will now be included in the Drums label as well.
Selecting a large number of tracks in the Session or Arrangement View is now noticeably faster.
When browsing the All label, presets will once again be grouped into their respective devices. However, the grouping will be discarded when applying any filter, in favour of showing a flat list. The grouping will also be omitted when saving a custom view based on the All label.
Improved filtering of devices and presets.
A small arrow is now displayed next to a tag's name to indicate that the tag includes subtags. When clicking on a tag with subtags, the nested tags will be grouped along a yellow line.
It is now possible to use the # symbol to search for all filters, including Content, Function, Format, and Creator.
Significantly improved the frame rate when scrolling or zooming in the Arrangement when there are many clips and tracks.
VST2 and VST3 plug-ins now use different icons in the browser.
Move can now play back Ableton-encrypted samples, both on the device and via Move Manager.
The different view modes in the Clip View's Clip Content Editor now use individual Info View descriptions.
Bugfixes:
Fixed an issue where MIDI would sometimes be sent with a high latency after Push has been switched on for a while.
When auto-tags are enabled, Drum Rack presets auto-tagged with "Sounds|..." will be excluded from the Drums label.
Deleting a Max for Live device now releases any control surface controls the device has previously grabbed.
Improved the centering and sizing of the shaper curve visualizations in Saturator.
Fixed a crash that could occur when instantiating certain plug-ins.
- Improved software text for some entries in the Edit menu that appear when tracks headers are selected.
- A newly created Arrangement locator will now be focused after creation.
Fixed a bug where all the changes made to warp markers with the keyboard would be undone at once, regardless of which markers were selected.
Fixed a rare crash that occurred when a count-in was started.
- The distance dial for Arpeggiator is now bipolar.
- The glitch drawing in the rightmost column of the Spectral devices' spectrogram is improved.
The mapping controls in Modulator devices now look correct when disabled.
When Oscillator Retrigger is on, Drift no longer clicks at note start.
Recently searched tags are now prioritised higher in tag suggestions once again.
Fixed a crash that occurred when creating a locator after an existing locator whose name is just a space character.
Drum Sampler now fades out the end of samples in order to avoid clicks.
Live no loner tries to import unsupported file formats to clips and tracks in the Arrangement View.
Fixed a bug that caused tab navigation to skip the Arrangement timeline.
Automation value display is now hidden when zooming or scrolling in the Arrangement.
Fixed a bug which caused the automation value display to appear outside of the Arrangement timeline in certain cases.
Fixed a crash that could occur under certain circumstances when setting the looping and warping API properties from the same event.

I don't know what Ableton is on but they need to pass that on to the other DAW makers.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

They need to put some of this energy into standalone.

Impressive indeed. But there are some reports of a tiny cpu increase with live 12.1 compared to live 12.0.25.
And I don’t see anything about that in this new beta
Anyone among you did compare ?

Ableton is pretty much known for making pretty exciting minor releases.
Sometimes these are just as good as the major updates, whether they are doing highly requested features or coming up with something new and unexpected.
Autotune was a much needed update.

Can anyone confirm this for me please ? I am thinking of switching back to Ableton from Bitwig but with the 12 demo - using a M2 Mackbook trackpad and its keyboard for midi note input on a lot of VSTs like Rapid, Arturia stuff when you turn a knob with the trackpad whilst pressing keys the cursor starts jumping around and flickering - it is on VST's where the cursor usually disappears when turning a knob.
I do have Linnstrument and things like that so that wouldn't be an issue but I spend a lot of time just with my Macbook and really like working like that.
Also MAx4Live things like LFO, on the Macbook trackpad the knobs behave erratically - sort of moving backwards and forwards at times instead of just turning when you drag them.
I am loving Live after playing with it yesterday, think I will buy it anyway, just these couple of things were a bit annoying.

Yesterday there was someone with a somewhat similar problem due to the trackpad behaviour of his Mac Book while using Reaper: a right-click wasn't a right-click (so to speak).
I suggest trying to work with a mouse just for testing. I bet the problems you face will disappear. By then you'll know if the trackpad is the problem.

I haven't experienced the cursor "jumping around", but it does occasionally flicker. This doesn't bother me.Penguin Classics wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 1:40 pm Can anyone confirm this for me please ? I have not experienced this, although I believe this can occur with certain 3rd party Max for Live devices that use Javascript based UIs, and usually requires some update from the 3rd party (I remember Ess talking about this in the Fors discord server when it was still around).Penguin Classics wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 1:40 pm Also MAx4Live things like LFO, on the Macbook trackpad the knobs behave erratically - sort of moving backwards and forwards at times instead of just turning when you drag them.

Cheers, I will try tonight with my mouse - I am pretty sure I will buy it. Bitwig seems to handle VSTs better than any other DAW I have tried - i use Logic too and that has odd mouse behaviour too on some plugins.

Live 12 Beta Release Notes
12.1.5b3 Release Notes
November 4, 2024
Bugfixes:
Switching between templates on the Launch Control XL no longer breaks the Pickup and Value Scaling takeover modes.
The sound is no longer sustained indefinitely when the Envelope 1 Release control in Drift is set to a value above 55 seconds.
Accessibility: When resizing clips with the keyboard, pressing the Esc key now reliably cancels the action. Additionally, screen readers will announce "Cancel adjusting clip edge..." to confirm the action has been canceled.
Fixed a crash that could occur when hovering over the borders of the Editor view mode tabs in the Clip View.

I don't understand why drum sampler is not default when you are trying to build into a drum rack. Don't they have the word "drum" on both? Why still the default is simpler? That makes nonsense.
But anyway... I love ableton 12.1 and sometimes I feel that I force myself not to use too much of their effects and synths because I have my other purchases plugins. I love aswell that simplistic and beautiful look (and I never understood why people dislike as an excel file).
A nice update though there are still room for improvement, like a disassociated window for their plugins, a hide/show tracks, a better mixer view and better management with aux groups...

The default is Simpler because you havent changed the default yet. But you can.n I I e wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 8:30 am I don't understand why drum sampler is not default when you are trying to build into a drum rack. Don't they have the word "drum" on both? To change the default, drag an instance of Drum Sampler (set up the way you want it on a MIDI channel) into User Library>Defaults>Dropping Samples>On Drum Rack
or you can create a new default preset for the Drum Rack, pre-populated full of Drum Sampler.
you can also change all instances of Simpler in a Drum Rack to Drum Sampler (or vice versa) from the right-click menu on the Device Title Bar of the Drum Rack, which preserves any loaded sample.
An idiot on Set Theory:
