OK.
Not my thing.
Uh huh.
I don't like it.
I think we got that the first time.
Hi egbert,

what's your problem?

Hi Fritz,

No problem - that was by way of a joke.

A wise man once said: "We aren't interested in your opinions (per se). We are interested in how you came by them."

Saying three times that you don't like it is redundant and sheds no light on the plugin.

Saying WHY you don't like it (what about the sound was not happening for you?) - now that IS interesting. So Fritz please expand on your last post if you want to contribute to the discussion - we might learn something and so might you.

:-)

Eg

Hi egbert,

OK, I didn't get the joke. Maybe a smiley next time?
I don't like the PSP Mastercomp because it's too transparent for me. Mastering is a sound shaping process for me and for the stuff I make (guitar hardcore, Techno, IDM, Ambient) I'm looking for a big phat sound. As a track compressor it suffers from the same problem for me, too neutral. I'm more happy with plugins like AnalogFluxSuite, VW, RCL and TLs stuff. For the same reason I do like Posihfopit, it's not clean.
If I would e.g. produce certain pop music I would want exactly that transparent compressor sound.

I hope that's more according to that wise man (who was it?). :)

MasterComp can do brick wall, and even John Bonham type of extreme, but it doesn't excel at these. It is really a "the god is in the details" type of thing. I find that there is much more going on with MasterComp processed material than many more aggressive sounding compressors. It's just that, it is so subtle, and there are som many little detailed things going on, it may sound transparent to ears used to hearing one thing done loudly. MasterComp isin't the tool for heavy compression (limiting). Rather, it is a very subtle artistic tool which can add a very sophisticated finish to a complex mix.

What MasterComp is acheiving is very complicated, and less akin to compression, and more akin to re-mixing.

OK - I tried MasterComp on Bmanic's drums wav (see the Crunchessor tips thread) and it gives a lot of control even when working hard - the kick still remains well defined for example. On electric bass it has its own sound but the lack of undesirable artifacts is really impressive to me. Perhaps I am appreciating the same things you are disliking ;-)

I use those too and like them a lot - I just like having a diversity of sounds depending on what I am going for with a particular part. Analog Flux is a really great set - the TapeBus plug works really well on a drum bus for example and the delay and chorus have really nice chararcters and good controls.
I hope that's more according to that wise man (who was it?). :)

I just had a look in Google but had no luck - something I was reading a while back that has stuck with me - lets just call him the Archetypal Wise Old Man ;-)

Hi egbert,

Thanx for the tip. I'll check the Crunchessor tips thread. And maybe I wasn't clear enough on that: I like it, too when undesirable artifacts are absent. :D And you're right: What are these?
