When I look at my dwindling share portfolio and the ever-rising cost of living (thanks to Trump and co.), a three-digit price tag would be a hard pass for me, even though I’ve been longing for it for so long.

Well considering my stock portfolio has been getting slaughtered in the last month, paying "just about anything" for it doesn't seem prudent at this time. Like I said the economy is in a dark place now and by the predictions of others who know far more about it than I do things could get really ugly like $20 for a gallon of gas ugly. I'm not saying those predictions will come true but I'm certainly taking steps to prepare just in case they do.wagtunes wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 3:51 pm No price point has been mentioned but I venture to guess that those of us who have been waiting over 30 years for this thing will pay just about anything.
Not having tried the demo yet but basing my expectations only on hardware SY77 demo videos I'd say those numbers are high.wagtunes wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 3:51 pmIf I had to guess, I'd say somewhere in the $199 to $299 range given synths like Falcon, Zehra 3 and Omnisphere.
I think the list price of Zebra 3 at an estimated $270 is really high for what it is (at this point in its development cycle, who knows what the future holds) but just like everything else I suppose the price of plugins is bound to go up.
I can't say what a fair price for SWAY would be for me without trying the demo first but if it's $299 then at that point I'd be inclined to just toss a couple hundred more in and get Omnisphere.
I just thought that since the developer has announced the release to be a week away he must have already set a price point if for no other reason to prepare the online store for business.
Like you said we'll see.....
Yes that's where I'm at as well......Although the US markets are having a bit of a bounce back today.Fette Töle wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 4:31 pm When I look at my dwindling share portfolio and the ever-rising cost of living (thanks to Trump and co.), a three-digit price tag would be a hard pass for me, even though I’ve been longing for it for so long.

Maybe we better stop this discussion now, otherwise sheaf might draw the conclusion that this is not a good time for release and postpone it ...

Wow, I'm stunned. I think this is an amazing value for what I know this synth can do.
I'm in 100%,

Awesome! I will eagerly await the demo......
How is the price of a plugin off topic in a discussion about that plugin?Ego_Shredder wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 6:54 pm Back on topic.....SWAYED! Looking forward to the release next month.

For a first time dev (more or less), I think it would have been a hard ask for eg $149+.
My estimated price range I thought reasonable (with the proviso that I haven't seen the finished product yet) was $59 - $99, with $59 being "no brainer territory and probably too cheap", and $99 being "that's about as much as I would consider reasonable", with some wiggle room for discounts to, eg $79 in sales or whatever if that time comes. Anything over $99 I'd likely file in the "maybe someday" purchase category.
So yeah, $99 seems right on the money to me, slightly more than I'd ideally *like* to spend, so it's probably priced perfectly, and should generate good sales.

Keep in mind that we're trying to assess the value before even trying the plugin. What it's worth to any individual will vary but what it's worth to the overall market in general is what matters to the commercial success of the project.
Cost and value are two different things. Hopefully everyone will find enough value to justify the cost and the project will be a huge success.

The SY 77, if I remember correctly, was a very popular synth and as far as I know, no VST versions of it exist. So if I had to bet, I'd say this thing is going to be one of the biggest sellers of the year. Unfortunately, since we will never have any access to sales figures, we'll never be able to prove or disprove my theory.Teksonik wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 8:03 pm Keep in mind that we're trying to assess the value before even trying the plugin. A 93-page thread for a synth that nobody has tried yet (apart from beta testers) is quite an indication of substantial interest.
I'm happy it fits perfectly into my synth budget for 2026. Now let's just hope that Cherry's new synth announced for March 31st doesn't empty my wallet ...
