Does that “free” deal work not matter what you buy from their site?

Yeah well, then you can call any sample editor a "re-synthesizer" as well.. as long as it's got some pitch shifting algorithm.wetdentist wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 7:40 pm i've heard Iris 2 referred to as a "re-synthesizer" before, as opposed to an actual synth
Yes.
Ok thanks.chk071 wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 8:17 pmYes.
Would you believe it? I can't even remember which alibi plugin i bought to get it.I only remember it was very cheap...
Why on earth did they make that super comprehensive modulation section? It almost feels like they had a lot more complexity planned but then decided to not do it.Sampleconstruct wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 8:07 pm Pitch, pan, amplitude, filter cutoff/resonance, effect parameters, that's all there is to modulate. It's all about the samples and the spectral selection in Iris, a one trick pony, yet a powerful one.
In Iris 1 there was only 1 hardcoded LFO per oscillator and a monophonic LFO and envelope for the filter. Then they must have hired some good coder who invented the new modulation system for I2, they sacked him half way through the project, left I2 a halfbaken plugin with plenty of bugs and that's where we're now.bmanic wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 8:46 pmWhy on earth did they make that super comprehensive modulation section? When I first bought it, I was like "unbelievable" but I felt exactly like you feel now after reading the manual and tried to make my own sounds!bmanic wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 7:35 pm So I finally installed Iris 2 as I got it for free (like most of us?) through Pluginboutique. I haven't read the manual yet but let me know if this is correct:
We have a really comprehensive modulation section (5 LFO's and 5 Envelopes + helpers).. yet only 12 destinations to actually modulate, in the whole synth???. And 4 of those are the effects and another 4 are basic gain and panning. So basically the only real "synthesis" parameter is the master filter pitch tuning? Seriously? That's it?
Surely I must be missing something here.. or is this thing 100% only about the samples loaded and the non-realtime static "drawing" of the frequency areas?![]()
Unless I'm missing something, this might very possibly be the most simplistic "wannabe complex" synth in the world.
EDIT: Ok, the modulators can also modulate their own and each others parameters but what's the point when there are so few "master" parameters to modulate? The manual states that there are over 100 destinations but I for sure can't find them. They probably just count each of the 4 oscillators separately and desperately try to add up the parameters.
EDIT2: LOL!!! It's utterly ridiculous how comprehensive the modulation system is considering how few synthesis destinations there are! This is literally an almost state-of-the-art modulation system built for a synth with basically 5 parameters. Gain, Pan, Pitch and Filter (cut + reso). That's it.![]()

Never in my life have I encountered such a weird combination of complexity and simplicity. Very strange synth. Wonder what the guys designing this were smoking.
The magic is completely in the spectral filter imho. I don't even use much else in Iris, I just put some effects in a rack and modulate those or resample for further use. But I love Iris for that spectral filter.EnGee wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:54 pm It has very nice sounds and samples. But it is an advanced player/rompler/sampler for me, not really a synth like Harmor or even NI Form! Anyway, I might use the samples inside the sampler in Bitwig (which can be granular synth). This is more interesting![]()
Yeah, it works great as a sample player with a very unique spectral filter. I don't use it all the time, but when I do I'm glad I have it. Very different results from granular treatment - imho it feels closer to RX or maybe Photosounder than to a granular synth.
