Just finished recording my first ever song in Ukrainian with a Ukrainian singer. It’s a pretty simple track, but definitely had it challenges…

I finally settled on switching to a different primary DAW for better MIDI workflow.
This unfortunately necessitates me removing a lot lof 64-bit VSTs and installing and reinstalling some 32-bit VSTs instead.

I gotta sort through my folders and manually find out which ones are which to avoid duplications.
So far it's working out okay. I'm discovering that the 32-bit stuff still works fine for me on my system.
This will be a good project to do to get my whole system leaner and I'm reviewing how my primary DAW works.

1) energyXT for MIDI and breakbeat arranging
2) REAPER for breakbeat remixing, fancier crossfades (further arranging), and for mastering
3) LMMS for some synthesis and MIDI capture and overdubbing

When I get around to it, I'm going to clean out my project folders and re-render nicer stems and save those in the right spots.

Bela Gliss came today. Installed it into my eurorack and read the manual. Now I can do performances! :hihi: Works particularly well with the Quadrantide Swarm witch is great fun. Glad I got more stackable cables because controlling two things simultaneously is a nice way to add dynamics to a performance.
Found out the Disting has a wave folder which can be used as a nice saturator on a bass drum like I'm using the Kobol expander for now. Need MORE cables, soon I'll be having this dream-

Actually bought a pack (5) 48-inch cables to go between the euro rack and other things and had to use those for a bit between modules.. Anyway I can see why people use Velcro and clips for cable pathways. What is the perfect length? 60cm seems good but I will have a lot of close modules so I will always need short ones too.

Just realised I’ve been massively underutilising my Erica Synths Bassline module.
I was mostly using it with things like Turing Machine modules but they tend to create really busy basslines. Moving instead to throbbing repetition and chucking more effort into modulating the filter cutoff and other things is reaping big benefits.
I think discovering new ways to use gear you already have is way more rewarding than constantly buying new gear (though I’m as much of a GAS victim as the next person).

The other fun thing was teaming the modular drums etc with a DAW plugin Skaka that replicates shakers and that kind of hand percussion. Small thing but it adds so much feel.

Are you safe?

Recently discovered that I can squeeze better audio out of my tunes if I put them fully or partially thru a multiband limiter and fiddle with the EQ.
Using a limiter as an EQ is weird but actually can get to some of the frequencies better after they've already been boosted by conventional EQ.
And by docking some of the amplitude with compression as attenuation, you regain some headroom to use for more EQ!

This is what I was using lately:

Usually I use this: (which is also helpful)

But even though the interface isn't as pretty, I've been getting better results with multiple stacked copies of:

EasyQ
BuzMaxi Limiter

EasyQ has a Mid-Side mode as well as split Left / Right or just ordinary Stereo.
It's actually competitive with Marvel GEQ even though it's not necessarily a Linear Phase EQ.
But combined with Marvel GEQ, it's great, since that's awesome too!

You'd think that stacking boosting EQs would be a problem, but I'm a sloppy mixer that way.
With the limiters it works out. Usually I'm using BuzMaxi. I'm slowly making progress in getting better mix results.
