man! I wish I was in a position to have all that "real" gear

But seriously, @unchained the lowest string is at C#/Db but is it tuned half a step then the Eb tuned to C#/Db?

Yeah, I believe so. Eddie always detuned a half step just as his base tuning. I already built that into the preset. I'll have to manually downtune my E string further when fine tuning the bottom end flab. Thanks for bring that to my attention.

quick note, AmpliTube 3.0.2 has been released: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=292180

Its not all as good as you might think man since its my 'weakness', studio gear i can buy/upgrade and i do not really get excited doing so (hardware and software). However in a place that sells pedals, amps i am a bloody lost cause/kid in a sweet shop and still get that excitment  So its pretty much the same as your plug-in addiction my friend :)

Edit: then this shit takes up 'phsyical' space which i am quite short on and then it needs loads of cable and also keeping in good working order...etc. Which is the great thing about virtual gear :D Still not gotten around to giving AT3 a try along with others. Keeping up with keeping up is tough work indeed

Thanks for the info Peter

Edit 3: Then there is all the various mods which have to be done (which can involve buying two of the same pedal or just voiding all warrenty if your sure that the mod will be sound) all in the quest of finding The Unholy Grail which probably doesn't exist but we all chase anyway :hihi: :help:

Fabulous - will keep an eye out for it for sure. At the risk of being a bit OT, what sort of guitar is it being tuned for?

Cheers, Jamvanman

I've been using both my Strat and Les Paul. The Strat has active EMG single coils and the SPC/EXG active electronics. The Les Paul is a standard with stock PAFs. Both yield good results.

I'm pretty much done, I'm just fine tuning the rack EQ. I'm not setting it up for the dry/wet reverb panning that was present on every album with Dave. That would limit its usefulness too much, and AmpliTube's routing (and mediocre rack reverb) are not well suited for that. So if someone wants to recreate Ted Templeman's production, they'll need to do that themselves in their DAW. The same goes for the EQ. I'm doing Ed's general tone, but not the specific post-production EQing of any particular track. AmpliTube is not really cut out for that anyways, with the rack EQ being about as musical as the aforementioned reverb. I sincerely hope that AmpliTube 3.1 introduces some EQ and compression from T-RackS 3, and reverb from CSR, like IK did for SampleTank 2.

I've also had to substitute the Echoplex with the Memory Man model, with less than satisfactory results, since IK still hasn't given us an Echoplex model yet. I am fairly satisfied with the MXR flanger matching, though. I've included a pitch shifter set to down-tune a half step so you can match the key when playing VH without having to detune your guitar. It will be disengaged by default.

I've been using Unchained, Panama, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, Atomic Punk, and Eruption as my primary general points of reference. (No, I can't play Eruption.)

I've uploaded my Brown Sound preset to the AmpliTube 3 section of the Preset XChange. If you think it's true to Eddie's tone, you should give it 5 stars.

I made a separate preset for 1984, since that album (and Diver Down) have a different guitar tone than the first 4 albums. Luckily AmpliTube 3 has models of all of the same cabinets that Eddie used (and most everything else, too), and his switch from 25W to 75W Celestions (because he kept blowing them) accounts entirely for this change in tone. This is reflected nicely by doing the same in AT3.

I achieved Eddie's tone by recreating his setup as historically accurate as possible within AmpliTube. Just like Eddie, I was able to get his high energy drive without the aid of a distortion pedal. The more true to his gear I got, the more true to his sound I got, too. Kudos to IK for modeling the gear so accurately that everything just fell into place once I dialed everything in.

One thing that I think many people have missed when trying to match the tone is that while Eddie's Plexi was not modded in any way, he didn't use KT66 power tubes in it, either. Matching the right tubes (Sylvania 6CA7/EL34s) is key to getting it right. Once again, this is also possible in AT3.

The one thing it's lacking is an Echoplex EP-3 model (something I keep requesting!) I do suggest that if you have AmpliTube Fender, you replace the EchoMan delay with the Fender Tape Echo pedal. That will get you closer. I chose to use the EchoMan so it would be accessible to all registered AT3 users for download.

thanks, will check those presets!
just popped in with a question.. on my screen ,the tempo speed control, below the 4 track is very hard to adjust down in speed as i constantly end up with my mouse going off the screen so can only adjust a few B.P.M at a time,, very annoying as it takes a lot of fiddling.. have i missed something , is there another way to adjust this?? thanks

Very nice, thank you. I think I slightly prefer 1984, but both are very nice. I wasn't too sure about the Echoman so will definately try substituting the delay from ATF.

By the away, also really liked The Cult preset that you did there.

Do you normally use AT3 as a stereo or mono track in your DAW?

Thanks a lot! I use AT3 on a stereo track always. I'll record guitar on the left side of a stereo wav. AmpliTube's stereo output needs a stereo track, at least in Cubase and Studio One.

Glad you like the Cult preset. When I do a preset like that or the Van Halen ones, I try to research the gear and make it as historically accurate as possible, including the specific cabs and particular stomp boxes, etc. It's sort of a challenge, and a very tangible way to document history and test the record. The great thing about AT3 is that it has so many noteworthy models in it now, I've found that I can do most of the setups I've wanted to. My 'Anarchy in the IK' preset is another one like that. I was a bit surprised by the gear Steve Jones used.

Thanks for the great presets and hard work researching to create them. Even I don't know exactly what gains "VIP" status on Preset XChange but at least you are a VIP there in my book. That means something, right? OK, that and a couple bucks will buy you a cup of coffee but I do what I can do :)

Just heard this little quick demo of AmpliTube: http://bit.ly/steeleirig - not bad for the iPhone version.

I believe there was mention of a preset import fix in the upcoming version, so please contact support directly to see as I am not directly on the tech support team and don't know that specifically. They can also verify and log any problem and get it into the system for a fix and also do pass along feature requests.
After reading the last couple of pages I wonder where does the issue of legacy presets stand? I just built a new system and was wondering the best way to get back some old presets (JH Discography, and some of the X-gear stuff). Do I need to re-install the old "Powered By" products?

Thanks

You can reinstall them or if you have the actual presets you can copy/paste them into the new versions preset folder, though that way you'll have to select each preset for each project since it'll be a new VST to your DAW.
