Yep that's what Soundtoys did with Filterfreak you get two plugins, one old one new. Both look and sound the same except one has more knobs.

Same here and I totally agree!
VRoom gets used on pretty much everything here. That and NastyDLA are my two go-to FX bus plugins on most projects.

You might find this interesting. Seems like Damon Lindelof is the one who really screwed the proverbial pooch, but Ridley is, of course, still ultimately responsible as director.

It's that Lost dude Damon Lindelof that be the botcher. PROMETHEUS has a lot of value in my universe, even as-is. I'm fine with it as a part one. Standalone... not as much. Add the out takes, alternate scenes, online jibber-jabber, Jon Spaihts' A L I E N: ENGINEERS script, etc. and you've got a decent non-linear immersive experience... almost a hobby.

If I release a ValhallaRoom update with more presets, the "bank select" slider would be hidden. The new algorithms would appear in the GUI drop down list, but the bank slider would only appear in the "generic" slider view. This way I could retain the existing GUI.

Plus, y'know, 12 reverb algorithms is a lot of algorithms. That's 3 times as many as what I released ValhallaRoom with. At this point in time, I would probably want to put new algorithms into a new "container," as the ValhallaRoom controls and algorithms are tied together pretty closely.

I wonder if Ridley had final cut approval for Prometheus. My gut feeling tells me that adding 40 minutes to the movie would improve things vastly. Split the added time between a bit more background for people's motivations, and just having some space to create some calm & build tension when appropriate.

EDIT: From this article: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/ ... d-20120604
Other than that I think this is a pretty good length, the dynamics of this are about right.

Yeah, it sounds like the Alien: Engineers script that this was based on would have been great. I'll have to see if I can get hold of a PDF so I can make my brain happy again.

My gut tells me that this film had needed a totally different score. One, which doesn't neglect all the harmonic innovations of the last 100 years...
the simplistic score just killed the whole movie.

(sorry for the OT)

(I actually thought the music from the trailers was pretty cool. But it DID sound a lot like that Inception "sting" being alternated with the scream from the first Alien trailer.)

Also: not really off-topic, since ValhallaRoom has the reverb modes named after the Aliens movies.

I haven't seen the 3D version, but I'd think all the time and effort in that aspect would have had an overall effect on the production, certainly the lighting. The 2D seems to lack "scary stuff in the dark."

Regarding the the score: I like it and I get it. Although it is heavy-handed, too uplifting in places, and doesn't make a connection for me in many scenes. I think the overall sound/ambience of PROMETHEUS is quite good... haven't heard surround either, though.

Oh, and "Dense Room" shall be "Prometheus" in my heart. I think it's good to stop at ALIEN, and where to go from "Sanctuary" on VVV?

I went up Aliens in ValhallaRoom (Sulaco). I don't remember enough about Aliens 3 or Resurrection to pull any names from those movies.

The upcoming ValhallaVintageVerb algorithms have boring/descriptive names:

Dirty Hall
Dirty Plate
Smooth Room
Smooth Plate
Smooth Random
Nonlin

Right, I either forgot or dropped the plural ball. Man, "3" was such a let down to me, I bailed and didn't see the forth one until years after it came out... same for the AVPs and nearly for Predators. I find some redeeming value in all of those now, though. Maybe that's why I thought PROMETHEUS was sort of OK: I've got the bar set pretty low. There is something weird about it, like the pieces are there, but don't quite fit together. I'll try to make that my last word on the subject.

I like those reverb names... can't wait! Plus, we can always make scifi/horror movie preset names to our hearts' contents.

Wow... just caught up on the new modes in the proper thread. I get confused about which is which or if I've read both (or all three, etc.). Looking Good!
