thegodofbass wrote:This thread has basically become too long. This is like 4 years of info in one long line. I found this thread a couple of weeks ago and I still haven't made it through it all!

There's enough info here to make a mini-site I think. There are so many issues covered - from how to source them to how to mod them - so I think I might try setting up a page or 2 and collate this info.

Looks like Markleford has been a constant source of info and scriptage - any suggestions for what should go up there?
You got my suport if you decide to do this! I just ordered an EZ AG from japan, and im going to mod it a lot.. Be happy to write a guide/whatever it will be w/pictures etc if you make a site.. :)

Sugestions...hmm..

Well, a forum would be nice. But perhaps only one main forum:general and one FAQ, because if it is to manny forum parts, (midi, audio, music, vst, O.T, fun, etc) people tend to not look into all of them when surfing, thus people want get help when they ask. Experiance from the Ableton forum. Whitch is I belive a very helpul forum. ;-)

And mod guides..

And links to what you need, midi ox etc...

And perhaps user uploads of content, whatever that will be..

something like this?

Oh ok, I see what you mean. Yeah, 10ms is pretty doable. Plus the beauty of midi is in the auto correction which cleans everything up perfectly in the end anyways. Just got a confirmation: they're shipping out the Last Retail EZ-AG in America to me today. Does it come with a power supply if you don't get the survival kit?

Post

No power supply on the AG without the kit.

I always use rechargeable AAs in my EZ, anyway! ;)

I would use asio4all in your situation, since you don't have a nice soundcard, just whatever came stock. That midisport is definitely just a midi driver. Asio4all is a small download, so you can find out what it does quickly.

Since the survival kit is utilized by several Yamaha products, they still make that don't they?

My audio I/O is handled by a Line 6 Toneport with very low latency.

Here's the lowdown for midi using an Ez-ag and/or midiyoke...
Thanks a million RunBeerRun! The stupid reality was that, having never used midi on my soundcard, I had selected the wrong MIDI input port! D'oh!

It's now working as a single channel MIDI controller. So... now I have 3 new questions:

1.) Can you hook it up so that each string controls a different channel? I'm sure I read somewhere that you can?

2.) There's some latency - especially noticeable if you try and tap a d'n'b tempo beat on the EZ - is this just the way it is? Can you reduce it?

3.) This is the biggie - when you hold down a note on the EZ-AG for a looong while then let go, it rings and rings for aaaaaages - almost like no note off is sent - has anyone else had this? Can you fix it?

If anyone can help that would be awesome - I'll take your reply and feed it into the FAQ for my upcoming mini-site:

Yeah cool - I really wanna put something together but it will be a MINI site as I am so busy at the moment with my next release!

The more I think about the site the bigger it gets, so I better just wait for a free day then just start somewhere. I'll post here once I have set up the basic site - might be a few weeks. I'll try and set it up in Drupal so that you can be made an editor or something.

Thanks guys :)

It does that out of the box: your sequencer is probably merging the channels.

What latency does the audio card report?

By default, the EZs do funny things with note outputs and sometimes do *not* send out Note Off meessages, instead relying upon the monophonic nature of each string channel. Hopefully the script apps fix this.

Great! Well I totaly understand, I am at the same face actualy, album is getting ready and also run a record label with an upcoming VA.

So yeah I know what you mean, just make it very simple. ;-)

1.) Can you hook it up so that each string controls a different channel? I'm sure I read somewhere that you can?-either hook up directly and use no script, it would be on 6 different channels, or find a script that can allow it this way(I'm not familiar with the hta scripts)

2.) There's some latency - especially noticeable if you try and tap a d'n'b tempo beat on the EZ - is this just the way it is? Can you reduce it?-are you using an hta script, when I used that with asio4all, there was always latency. I prefer the ndcmidi plugins, they never added any latency, i use the channel one first to route all channels down to 1, and the velocity range to filter out low velocity notes, so I'd only hear them when I plucked a string, not just when I hit a fret. Google "ndcmidi" and it'll come up.

3.) This is the biggie - when you hold down a note on the EZ-AG for a looong while then let go, it rings and rings for aaaaaages - almost like no note off is sent - has anyone else had this? Can you fix it?-These guitars SUCK as midi controllers. When I was using asio4all, it always happened. When I got an M-Audio soundcard, that stopped. Better get used to hitting the mute bar on the guitar.

Jeez, 99 pages of what a brilliant midi controller this is, then I find out it "sucks" as a midi controller! Somebody's wrong. If it has major issues with note off, it's the 99 pages.

Well, it's only a brilliant MIDI controller when you use it with one of the script apps! Extra programming overcomes the limitations and creates new possibilities. Check out my site below for my version of the app.

One of the things to keep in mind is that you won't be able to play exactly like a guitar or a keyboard: it's somewhere in-between. It takes a while to get used to the technique, but many people have created great stuff with it.

Hi all EZ-AG experts

I just got one from ebay recently, but I am a bit disappointed when it comes to string sensitivity. I have quite short nails and usually "rub" strings with the end of my fingers rather than pinch them. However, my ez-ag sometimes does not detect when I do so, resulting in missing notes. Is that somehow expected of is it an issue on my particular instance?

The second question is : is there any software (or software chain) to transform the thousands of guitar tabs out there (text, guitar pro files, ..) to compatible XF song for the ez-ag ? (to benefit from lighted frets). I mean not just standard midi files. That would be great if there was ! (for me anyway :)

Thanks !

Post

I currently have a Suzuki XG-1m which does have velocity and sensitivity control but merely a knob to determine global release (note-off), so hoping the EZ-AG is light years ahead of that!
