But look at this UI, it invides you to play with it, just look at it, so beautiful
I've had Chromaphone for years. I like some of the sounds I get from it. I suppose the GUI is pretty in a certain sense, but I always find Chromaphone frustrating cause modulation is so limited. Plasmonic has easily 100 times the modulation possibilities. Chromaphone is also having a kind of form over function. Too many tabs and that are not necessary.

I don't really enjoy using Chromaphone from a GUI/workflow perspective. I enjoy doing sound design more in Plasmonic. Partly because it is far far more flexible and partly because I just like the workflow a bit better. Not that Plasmonic is my favorite in terms of workflow, but it is acceptable and better than Chromaphone.
Completely agree. Chromaphone looks organized, but then the workflow sucks. Plasmonic looks unorganized ( at first) but the workflow is wonderful.

My only complaint about the UX of Plasmonic is his IMO terrible choice (he has some nerd logic reason I've forgotten), to make course and fine adjustments reversed on sliders that are horizontal VS vertical. The rest is perfectly logical, and as a bonus works with touch screens really well.

Post

BTW. The only reason I argue here is that it would be sad if Plasmonic would be talked down too much.
I totally respect if somebody doesn't like it, need it or finds the UI bad.

I just think that there is a lot to love about it and it is very personal if the UI clicks or not - it took me a bit myself to "get" it, and now I'm very comfortable with it (something I never managed with Absynth for instance).
Plasmonic is my favorite MPE synth.

And I totally agree that there are GUIs that make me not use certain plugins, so it's not that I don't get the argument either.
But Plasmonic isn't one of those for me.

I guess I'm also a bit "protective" towards developers I respect a lot and who do their own thing, even if I do not agree with everything 100%. That is a huge plus for me in this time and day, where so much corporate bullshit is around where things look "pretty" but have little innovation or actual value.

But those of course are my preferences. ;-)

Cheers!

I must admit, assigning random LFO to bunch of parameters (including the resonator) is a lot of fun, every key is random sound.

Someone mentioned that there are significant updates in the works for Plasmonic. No timeline given. That is still exciting news. It's one of the best synths available today!

Post

yes i also talked with Brian there should be interesting updates.

with the disaster with NI i hope he can continue his awesome work and gets his synths out there. a shame with NI, i hope Brian can somehow make also a VST which can import Absynth presets or something so we have no worries for the future of Absynth in old projects when NI switches off the acitvation some time, i dont trust them!

Absynth uses samples on a lot of presets, it will be impossible to make vst to import Absynth presets so you can play them without the samples folder inside the Absynth installer

They effectively did with the last Access update. Puts Absynth in Demo mode on any machine not running Win 10/11. Actually killed all plugins this way so that if you're running 7/8/8.1, your screwed. And my hardware boards have never got along with anything past W7.

They should give Absynth back to Rhizomatic then, as a gesture of 'good will'.

He should just create a new Absynth :D As easy it sounds to say it - but we all know in reality its hard and it will take couple of years.

I have a top 5 favorite synths, and Plasmonic is in the top 3. Plasmonic is surreal and psychedelic, meaty and fat, ethereal and swirling, crunchy and soft, all at the same time. I find it cleaner and quicker than a number of other synths. I looove binding polyphonic expression controls and playing it that way, or by automating parameters and letting it rip.

Plasmonic isnt a 1:1 replacement for Absynth by any means, but it is something new, it is "spiritually" connected to Absynth (and Brian C, who is a rad developer), it is NOT part of NI's catalog or connected to the worries brewing there, and I am thrilled to be a customer of Rhizomatic! (who confirmed for me via an email conversation that something new is in the works!!)

Holy, holy, holy!

D'loaded the demo and played a couple of presets, not many of 'em are in my ballpark (though impressive, no question). Okay, tried something on my own, from the default patch, and it took me approx. 90-120 seconds to achieve something I not only liked but LOVED.

What the friggin' fabulous fantastic sh... is that synth!? :o  :phones:

So easy to dial in something nice++. I'm blown away.

It's very nice, but not my cup of tea. I of course want something like Absynth (sample-base), or anything that would be a broad palette for cinematic type sounds or anything ambient or with complex soundscapes. So perhaps something like that is in the works? Pigments is nice but not my cup of tea either.
