Avid buys Wizoo

I wonder what this will do to Wizoo and the VST standard. Question is whether Wizoo will continue to make VST (or other native) products, or they will strictly focus on the DigiDesign ProTools enviroment.

Yes, this is certainly my question as well. They make excellent products, and it would be a shame if they went to a ProTools-centric environment. The comments in the press release certainly seem to indicate this, but the VST market is most likely far too enticing (and big) for them to dump VST support completely.

I did not realize they bought Izotope. I own three of their products, but have not checked for updates in quite a while.

It means the same in English.
Talk about a bunch of doomsayers. And of course, its all Avid's fault. I think its a much greater insight into the guys who run Wizoo than anything else. It kinda tells me they were only in it for the money. Either that or Avid have offerred to not interfere and fund R&D or something. In any event I'd wait and see what happens before I started carrying on.

I worked at digidesign in the early AVID days, and AVID was fairly hands-off in their digidesign remote management.

I can't see this meaning anything about the folks at Wizoo, with any certainty. It could be a win-win situation.

but Apple.... from Logic to itunes to ipods.... once they start selling guitar picks they'll own the entire circuit.

well, regarding the innocence of mergers. apple's emagic takeover sure changed a lot. pinnacle's steinberg takeover did, too. yamaha's did as well, more to come there.. digi/avids m-audio takeover will certainly lead to more changes in the future.. this is not fast.

anyway, i think it is less about morale in big companies than as bones said about the small fishes. either they are forced to sell (because they are bankrupt) or they are "only in it for the money"..

i can not imagine anybody saying gorges/ruerup/zimmer do not really really like spending money. but they allready had that before!

so maybe after all this is more about enforcing standards/forging customer needs/etc ??

Don't laugh,I remember seeing something on PBS a few years ago where a private company(don't remember the name,possibly Avid or something or other ) was already selling realestate of future Moon property and were supposedly working on their own shuttle.Anyway,I was never that much of a fan of Wizoo's stuff,especially anything to do with sample content,so they can go wherever they want,even the Moon.

Exactly. Maybe I'm missing something, but Pinnacle only seemed to affect Steinberg's consumer end, i.e., there is none now (remember "Steinberg Clean" or "Remix"?), and there was never any great synergy between video and audio from that merger.

I meant it was a good thing as in it didn't affect longtime, loyal customers like myself. Apart from that, corporate mergers don't do it for me.

It sadly reminds me of how all the major record lables goobled up most of the independents in the last 10-15 years and look what that's done to popular music culture .
