And - another batch of reviews! Woohoooooooooooo!
The Release (KVR Edit) - Voynich:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Had a lot of problems downloading this as the link wasn't correct. Glad I did, though. This track really has cool elements such as the vocals you use. Also, the lead sounds are really nice and the track just sounds well produced with nice fx. There seem to be several clicks at some points in it which is a bit of a pity as for the rest it's a really smooth listening experience. I enjoyed it very much, I'll try to give the full track a listen later on.
Music For The Computer Age - Oddbods Finger:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cool track, it has a kind of disco vibe to it with elements of Air. Really nice!
Bob has gone - Thomekk:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't really like the style of the vocals, but I did really enjoy the guitars and the wonderfully dissonant chorus. A really enjoyable track!
Shadows in our minds - Sepheritoh:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The start of this track reminded me a bit of Space Oddity, but then it turned into a kind of psychedelic/celtic track with some Hollywood elements in the use of brass. I am a bit puzzled - to be honest I don't really like several of the elements, but they work wonderfully well together and have quite a cool feel as a whole. At the end synth elements set in and again it's a cohesive whole where it shouldn't be... Great track! I love it!

Here comes my first batch of reviews. If you think I'm wrong you're probably right
Yuskevich In Memoriam Doctoris Roberti
This song is well structured and the sounds work well together. Perhaps the leads are a bit too low, but I don't mind because I like. What's a pity is that's too short.
Knockman The Moog KookBook
I ever smile with the conversation in the intro. The song remembers me like a picture of Joan Miro: bit childish bit surrealistic (Joan Miro is one of my favourite painters)
Barnadine Flow
Sounds indeed like a farewell song but the feeling in not too sad (surprisingly a common touch in many songs this month). I could imagine this song with the arranges magnified and sounding like a kind of "Jerusalem".
Benedict Time Returns All Legends To Glory
Atonal ambient that flows to a momentary glimpse of light that fades. I would like to hear a longer version.
Marc JX8P The Great Modular In The Sky
Nice sounds & nice harmonies passing through many beautiful soundscapes (a bit too fast IMO). I would like to hear an "unzipped" version.
Many more to come ....

Thanks for the nice review, Diek! I'm not sure though what you mean by 'unzipped' - or do you mean that I should have given it more time (in line with your first remark)?Diek wrote:Marc JX8P The Great Modular In The Sky

Reviews Part 1
Patrick9 - In The Moog
It made me laugh and I like the idea but I'm sorry I just couldn't bring myself to listen all the way through
-----------------------------------------------------
MarcJX8P - The Great Modular In The Sky
You have captured the moogy 70s space age feel nicely. My favourite part is the first minute and a half which has a nice flow to it.
-----------------------------------------------------
Benedict - Time Returns All Legends To Glory
Again I really enjoyed the opening minute and a half wihich has a 2001 space odessy feel. When I close my eyes listening to this I have visions of a lost spacecraft floating through the space.
---------------------------------------------------
Khepira - Spirals For An Inventor
You have captured a completely different vibe to everybody else so far with some really interesting sounds
--------------------------------------------------
MCHLWLSN - AllegroAssai
I was surprised how well this actually works although I agree with Marc JX8P about maybe layering the synths to separate it all out a bit more
----------------------------------------------------
Poepe - Bob Has Left The Building
A good song which has been really well mixed. To me all the different instruments sound like they fit together really comfortably.
----------------------------------------------------
Silent Mind - KVR Bullshit
For me there is way too much compression on this track and I didn't like the repetitive bass sound that kicks n t about 35 seconds as it was too loud and masks what is potentially a really good song with a few minor alterations
----------------------------------------------------
Yuskevich - In Memoriam Doctoris Roberti
Way too short
I want to hear more!! I really like the lead sound, what did you use to do this?
-----------------------------------------------------
Barnadine - Flown
Simple yet moving. Barnadine I have only heard a few songs of yours but I consistently find them to be full of emotion.
------------------------------------------------------
Knockman - The Moog Kook Book
Absolutely fantastic I love every last second of this track!
----------------------------------------------------
Scamme - Now You Can Rest
I'm a big fan of ethnic sounds and I like the way you have combined them with the synth lead so that it all feels like it fits together
------------------------------------------------------
You(tm) - Europa and the Pirate Twins
A great track that oozes fun. It grows with each listen as there is so much going on in it
-----------------------------------------------------

Thanks! I did really enjoy doing this as it involved playing my old synth which I haven't done in a long while and I think I'm going to use it again more on future tracks.Caco wrote:MarcJX8P - The Great Modular In The Sky

...more reviews.
Remember, If you think I'm wrong, probably you're right.
Scamme Now You Can Rest
The percussion and the flute are OK in the beginning, but became obvious loops at the end of the song. The background and lead synths are much better. If you want my advice (and if I was able to give advice) try to program yourself parts that you have used loops here for
Silent Mind 2005 KVR Bullshit
I do suppose that it goes on musical styles but the first that caught my attention is that volume is too load.
As for the song itself, the bass at the start hooked me. The progressive adding of instruments is also well done. I'm sure you know what to do with a tracker. Not my style but liked the song anyway.
Khepira Spirals For An Inventor
Very good synth work. The rythm part is also well programmed. Keeps your attention with a disperse ambient. I like the music you do.
Patrick9 In The Moog
I'm sorry but I don'y like this song. I must rekon I don't like the original version neither. I've got nothing bad to say about the work you've done, probably is a chance of likings.
More to come ...

OK folks, these are just my own misinformed brief ramblings jotted down during or shortly after listening…..
Diek – I could only pick out 3 sections rather than 4. The epic chord changes from 0.40 – 2.00 is my favourite section.
Ezy Ryder – The bass and reverby drums with the 5/4 create a nice moodiness. The ethereal choir pads are dreamy too. The synth lead kind of over-shadows the mood a tad though, bit too harsh/loud for me...
Beardedone – This has a sort of cool ambient glitchiness that I find nice and relaxing.
You™ - Great production/mix as per …Thomas Dolby/Beverly HillBillies mash-up?
Poepe – Not sure what to make of this
…robot voices, lead guitar, sax, soulful diva wailing…bit of a strange brew but all nice and tight though…think I like the synth leads the best. You have a bit of the Robin Trower about your guitar playing.
Mchlwlsn – Does exactly what it says on the tin….that whole Switched on to Bach/Classical/Moog 60s thing.
Sepheritoh – Man that strumming really is out of time and the lead guitar really is out of tune!
Hovmod –All the evolving synth atmospherics make a cool sonic backdrop to the gitar stuff.
Patrick9 – Smell that cheese! This hums more than Gorgonzola and Limberger put together.
Khepira – This has an Asian kind of feel to the percussion and parts of the melody that I really get into.
Silent Mind 2005 – I like the beginning and the melody, but then that trance beat comes in and….eeeeeeeeekkkk….man is this too loud and compressed or am I just old?
Scamme – A touch of the ‘Born Slippy’ about those delayed synth chords…more melody variation would be nice, but the production sounds good.
Marc JX8P – This has a touch of Vangelis
(I recommend a visit to the doctor)
.
Benedict – The sparse arrangement works well ….I’m always a sucker for this type of spacey pad music…and it morphs nicely into a slightly different feel at about 1.45
Barnadine – Simple and haunting. I found it quite moving.
Knockman – More odd vocal antics and interesting music… something of Divine Comedy about the whole thing
.
Yuskevich – I like the arrangement and the various melodies, although all that white noise gets a bit much
.
Caco – Bass heavy tune…would work well as a piece of movie soundtrack.
Repetive, but I found it quite addictive.
Synthasy2000 – Great sounds on this track….if the Moog Modular and Minimoog were the only Moog equipment I could muster, I’d feel far from ‘unfortunate’
.
Thomekk – sorry, couldn’t download your track

Heh - unfortunately Jarre and Vangelis are integrated into my inspiration... even if I'd go for heavy metal in 5/4 using pentatonic scales I'd end up doing something like Chariots of Fire...oddbods finger wrote:Marc JX8P – This has a touch of Vangelis(I recommend a visit to the doctor)

Oh no! Not another batch of reviews!
Moog Has Left the Building - Respirator:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great synth athmospheres, great sounds (I love that kind of high frequency bubbling effect). I did keep on hoping that some kind of theme would rise from this ocean of sounds though. Still, very relaxing to listen to and really well done.
Fooger - Farlukar:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really love that subtle pad sound from the beginning - could have been a tad more prominent. Cool bass sequence and the speech effects are very interesting. Very athmospheric. Made me think of one of those science programs they'd put on in the late 70s, early 80s. Nice!
Moogie Wonderland - Caco:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love the main bass sequence. The electronic percussion has too much reverb for my liking though and it does dominate the rest of the track a bit. The percussive effects in the second part of the track are very cool!

A few more reviews:
Ezy Rider - And Then There Was Moog
The rhythm the really makes this track stand out and be noticed giving it an interesting feel.
-----------------------------------------------
Diek - The Call Of The Universe
Sparse, yet all the better for it. A very haunting and memorable track. I really like this one.
---------------------------------------------
Bearded One - Mood For Bob Moog
Love the laid back relaxed ambient feel to this and the theremin lead
---------------------------------------------
Sepheritoe - Shadows in Our Minds
I really didn't want to be negative about this song as i do really like it and think it is really powerful and would make a fantastic film score but to me the change at 1.17 just doesn't sound right and the electric guitar at the two minute mark really doesn't fit the track. Apart from that though I am a fan of this track so if I am being critical I apologise but its because I can hear how good it could potentially be with a few tweaks.
------------------------------------------------
Hovmod - In A Blue Moog
Awesome! This song is totally lacking in any obvious structure yet still sounds like a cohesive unit rather than random sections glued together which is very difficult to acheive. Really well done.
