Hi,
Just wanted to clarify the main differences between Lexicon PSP42/PSP 84 and the new PSP 608MD. Many people seem to think of feature set of the PSP 608MD as the superset of 42/84 which is not true. Below is the list of arguments why to get 42/84 if you have 608MD:
1. The main difference is that 42 and 84 core engines use delay line operating at variable sample rate thanks to the set of two higher-order resamplers per delay line while 608MD uses simple delay lines operating at the sample rate equal to that of host applications. The difference is dramatic. The variable sample rate allow to achieve several interesting effects which are not possible with 608MD. These include:
- simulating vintage magnetic tape delays (variable tape speed, speed instability emulation),
- detune effects,
- chorus-like effects,
- dynamic doubler and phaser effects,
- pitch-twisting
The variable sample rate delay line is used in most of the complex 42 and 84 factory presets, so auditioning them will clearly reveal this significant difference.
2. In usual studio situation, when you don’t want to get the complex rhythmic patterns of the echo, 42 and 84 are much easier to set-up and significantly less CPU- and memory demanding.
3. 42 includes phrase sampler which is not built into 608MD.
4. Lexicon PSP42 is the exact replica of classic hardware Lexicon box. In fact the sound is so faithful that Lexicon allows us to use their logo on it. Not only the sound is very close to that of Lexicon PCM42 box, but also the set of controls and their characteristics. Lexicon PCM42 has great history and has proved to be extremely good-sounding and user-friendly. Many top engineers choose Lexicon PSP42 not only because they got used to the original hardware box, but also because they know how useful and extraordinary-sounding it was.
5. The factory presets of 42/84 are usually more useful in typical studio tasks than those of 608MD. Generally speaking, you will prefer to use 42/84 when what you need is echo, while 608MD will allow you to create very complex rhythmic patterns and shape the sound of each delay tap separately.
hope this makes things much clearer

In brief, the 608MD is just crap compared to the PSP42/84? (just kidding
)
Ok, but what justifies the high price then?
What's the thing with the modulation, if there's no resampling in the delay line?
I'll give it a test tomorrow, then I might answer these questions myself...
(still, I think it looks very promising)

Who is general failure? And what is he doing on my harddisc?

I didn't mean it is a crap
I only wanted to highlight the features that 42/84 have and 608MD does not. If I wanted to do the opposite (what's in 608 and not in 42/84) the list would be much longer...
The 608MD modulation controls the filter parameters. Just as I mentioned the delay time cannot be modulated (unlike 42 and 84).

Anyone buy it yet and care to comment on the presets? It seems to have enough features that this thing could do alot of audio mangling.
How do the presets compare to Nitro's?

hm..I still think that you have one line to many...but if no one notice, then I guess it's fine!

To me it sounds more like a marriage of 84 + Nitro. Nice to have everything at hand but I think if you own the fx pack (42, 84 + Nitro) there may be some overlap. Obviously 608 can take delay further though.
Don't know if the demo contains the final presets, but they're pretty nice. Not as many as Nitro I don't think, and not as crazy.

I'm sure of that!
That's a pity. I like delay modulation very much. But on the other side, I'm glad now to have bought the 42/84. The 608MD will be a good complement to themhubert.psp wrote:The 608MD modulation controls the filter parameters. Just as I mentioned the delay time cannot be modulated (unlike 42 and 84).

I agree.... or at least set up a preset file exchange system on thier site.

The Presets are accessed right down the bottom left of the GUI - there are a heap of them for the demo. This thing sounds very classy indeed - good stuff Hubert.omo wrote:Strange plug-in. Too difficult to operate, takes too long to set-up for a simple effect and there's no presets in demo version.

thanks for your appreciation, but this time it was not me! 608 was created by Piotr Dmuchowski, our new member - he's been working on it for quite a long time now and agree that his products kicks ass.

Oh, thanks for the hint. I see they've done their best to hide the presetsegbert wrote:The Presets are accessed right down the bottom left of the GUI - there are a heap of them for the demo.
