However if you're careful with it and buy a case for it and are always gentle, it will last you years.

I've had a creative nomad (the huge, discman looking one), and Ipod and a creative zen in that order. The first 2 are pretty much useless now.
I've had an Archos Jukebox Studio 10 that has lasted a year of working overnights at Target, two years of me biking with it during college and so far a year and a half of working at a furniture store.

f**ker won't die... if only it's hard-drive would magically increase in size

Why'd you need to buy 3 then? :hihi:

I've had a 30gb ipod photo for 6 months now and not a single problem! (Touch wood!) All products are made to have a certain lifespan otherwise we'd never buy a new one again...

What is this technical voodoo - "iPod" ?

Some of us have better things to do than :

1/ Have our eyes glued to a spazzy mobile phone screen

2/ Enter the underworld that is iPod-island and have your ears filled with spazzy earphones

i dont even know why the minidisc was invented.

best bet is a cd player that can play mp3's on CD-RW's
I got it purely because I couldn't afford a ram based one at the time.

My iPod works fantastic and have had it for two years. Before you send it in, look online for a repair shop. Parts are pretty cheap compared to what Apple will charge you. I jog with mine and throw it around all the time. I even replaced the rear cover because it got scratched up when it got pulled out of my pocket and slid down the sidewalk. It was an easy repair.

BTW, it's EASY to migrate from iPod to another player. I changed a 15 Gig library to MP3 via AppleScript.

Disclaimer: I was not touching myself while I wrote this. :D

hi,
i didn't know this was easily done.
does ipod play the mp3's then? can you only convert the tunes you ripped from CDs or does applescript convert tunes purchased from iTunes store also?
where do you get applescript? does it come with the ipod?

i was under the impression that apple discouraged this. please correct me if i'm wrong.
thanks.

here's a few things that piss my off about ipods.
its the most famous portable music player, yet in many ways its also the most backward and outdated. There are now hundreds of similar products on the market, mostly in the same price range or cheaper, and they have radio tuners in them, and can also play videos. yet what has apple done lately? not much at all. It's now pathetically behind the competition, yet the whole world is still hypnotized by it all. It just goes to show what money and advertising, and mass media manipulation can achieve. But, the part that pisses me off the most is that it is horribly overpriced for what it is, and the price just refuses to go lower. I mean i have NEVER seen any special deals on ipods, ever.. and that is obviously because they're selling so many of them, why bother discounting when every second human being is a braindead sucker.

You know what the annoying thing is, I agree with you %100 but I was still suckered in! Although I have to say it does have better build quality compared to some mp3 players I've seen.
