i dont own the malmsjø myself so i cant really say this for sure... but my sample libraries usually say something like "use these samples to make music, you may not repackage them and distribute them as samples"

Post

but it's a nice piano that artvista malmsjø one :)

I would suggest reading the sticky at the top of the forum relating to posting samples / soundfonts.

I personally think it's a great idea to modify sample sets, convert them to another format / host, to learn more about sampling. But I only do this for personal use.

Perhaps next time post a demo of you playing the sample set and ask for opinions on the sound, if that's what you are after.

I would say that it is most definitely NOT in the slightest bit legal. It doesn't matter that a lot of time and effort and re-editing (maybe even improvements) were carried out and it is totally irrelevant that this exercise of sharing for the sampling community might be very well-intentioned, the fact is that the original developer of this piano is trying to sell it to make a living and/or recoup costs and along comes yannleo and gives the bugger away for free!

yannleo - I would seriously suggest you withdraw the download at least until such time as legality is confirmed either way - you could find yourself getting slapped with a nasty little lawsuit!

Well it might be legal depending on how it was done actually. Or so I think...

If he played the Malmsjö Grand and sampled it that way it would be very much like sampling a proper piano. And I really can't see how that would be illegal. However if he's using the actual samples which he seems to be doing it's a different thing.

I asked the same question of Scot Solida once - the sampler/synth yoda (in knowledge not in looks) and he said something along the lines of "Don't go there!".

Happiness is the hidden behind the obvious.

no-one got it anyway, slow arse server....

..if you open up the exposed directory on that ftp server, you'll find more than just this file...

This chap isn't averse to 'borrowing' from other sources as well.

Oh, you think files like "keygen.exe" are fishy? I'm guessing it's just some kind of freeware puzzle game ;)

FFS...

:x

I appreciate that re-editing and trimming all these took time & effort but PLEASE do it with something you have the legal and moral RIGHT to use...

When I see the love and attention that went into the original collection it really makes me sad that the producers of such a wonderful product are being ripped off...

Just because some guys on the net somewhere STOLE samples to make soundfonts dont make it right to STEAL this piano :uhuhuh:

Its cheap and beautiful - buy it and support the developer.

There's a sampled Malmsjö piano called (I think) Maestro Grand that was offered as a free download by the developer Mats Helgesson, can't find it atm. Hopefully it's that piano that has been turned into a soundfont, not the Art Vista Malmsjö by Hans Adamson.

If yannleo did this without checking with Mats Helgesson I guess it's still morally dodgy, not sure about the legalities. :?

The Helgesson SF was uploaded by me after Matt's site went offline. But it was a 1GB piano, and Matt gave us permission to give it away. His license STATES also that you can give it to your friends, AS LONG AS THE LICENSE IS INCLUDED. His smaller piano is on sf2midi.com and also sounds good. Just get those, as this one wasn't legal anyways. Even if it WAS Matt's piano, the license isn't included amongst other things.

Really, just get Matt's pianos and you will be happy. They really ARE free.

I have Artvista's, it is great...but it is considerably larger than 90 mb, but I dont know if this is relevant to topic due to lack of soundfont knowledge...I don't think however that it could compress that much.

and yes, there was a soundfont piano but not the same AFAIK

A friend of mine has this, and it's about 1GB in GIGA format. This is a fantastic sounding piano, one that brings out the inner emotions. I just wish that he'd release this in Kontakt2 format.

Artvista, if you're listening, convert this to K2 format and utilize the new scripting engine
