Yeah, Andrew, I highly recommend checking those out. Donald's demo is excellent, and I just can't reliably say I'm your guy for beats and pads.donaldm wrote:there are audio demos on the webpage..........
Chris from AD put up a demo on his blog a few weeks ago, listen to it here. Much more beat-like music than my noisedrone ways.

I dunno, I listened to those demo's and I just didn't think they were that special really. That's why I asked.

It's just a set of filters, I wouldn't really expect anything too earth shattering from it. This isn't an essential plugin, but it's a neat little thing, a bit different from most other things out there, sounds good, and is not too expensive.
I've stopped buying any of those magazines that give you software (which are $20+ here), and instead have allocated the funds to inexpensive plugins that are more interesting to me than some of the crap caked on to those cover CDs. This fits nicely into that budget.

Daaaammmnnn! $20 for a magazine?? That's really really shit.
This does look like a useful plugin. We've got a Doepfer at university that has a filterbank, and they're great fun to modulate.
I just don't know if I wanna buy something I could create for free.

Okay, Andrew, I felt guilty for saying no, figured it wasn't very musicianly of me, so here's a quick demo with a beat and a pad.
907A beat and pad clip
The beat is made up of samples from the Cheetah SpecDrum fed into Dubstation, the pad is me playing two chords on Symptohm (the sound is a bit organ-y, but it was under the pads section in the given presets). The first 30+ seconds is the beat and the synth, the latter half after the short silence is the whole thing run through the 907A filter with most of the bands automated over a looped 4 measures at 80 BPM. The whole thing uses a bit of BetaBugs PhaseBug, a lovely thing if ever there was, just for some added stereo oo-ah-ooh.
Note the dandy phaser-like quality of the filter when automated. One thing to consider, the filter makes everything quieter, since it is just attenuating frequencies, so you need to add gain make up after it.
And for added fun, here's a complete sample set from the Cheetah SpecDrum I made up not long ago. Meant to post them here, I'd only posted the link previously at Analog Industries (Chris from AD's blog), so get them while they're hot and share them with your friends.
Cheers,
Steve

You might want to keep an eye on those magazines just a bit longer. There's a really nice surprise coming in one of them soon...shamann wrote:I've stopped buying any of those magazines that give you software (which are $20+ here), and instead have allocated the funds to inexpensive plugins that are more interesting to me than some of the crap caked on to those cover CDs. I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Well, I keep an eye out on them, but I haven't been impressed much with anything they've put out in the last two years.rockin1 wrote:You might want to keep an eye on those magazines just a bit longer. There's a really nice surprise coming in one of them soon...

Thanks for the demo Steve. Gives me a much better idea of what the thing sounds like on percussive sounds. I think I will eventually buy this, even if it were just for the GUI!

Damn, now I want to know what it is (I'm such a sucker for these kinds of things). How long before we see it hit the street?rockin1 wrote:The surprise I'm referring to will be like nothing you've ever seen before... guaranteed!
Any time Andrew. It's a fun filter, it's good for simple shaping of the sound, but I think it sounds especially good when automated.Andrew Vernon wrote:Thanks for the demo Steve. I'm not sure how long. I'll try to get some more info coming your way...shamann wrote:Damn, now I want to know what it is (I'm such a sucker for these kinds of things).
