I like the option that some soft synths give to turn it on or off. When replicating the sound of early digital synths it is handy. Sometimes it can also reduce CPU usage during song construction. Then you can flip over the high quality mode to record the parts.

This is all very well, but I maintain that if you're creating a serious simulation of analogue synth digitally, it simply should not alias. At all, not ever. Otherwise it's a poor-quality emulation.

However, with digital/hybrid stuff I tend to agree that anti-aliasing should be switchable. We are looking into giving Neutron and Tachyon various quality modes to leave those choices up to the user - something like regular linear interpolation (with switchable oversampling for those with heftier processors), and a super high-quality Sinc interpolation mode for rendering to disk for everyone else.
