Stina's album "Dynamite" is astonishing - I love love love it!!!
Also, her covers album is worth checking out - more amusing than anything, but still very good

I still think "And she closed her eyes" is the best thing she's done, but I'd also put in a vote for her last two CD's "This is Stina Nordenstam" and "The World Is Saved". I think "Dynamite" and the covers album ("People Are Strange") are a little bit more difficult to get into, but still worthwhile. Mind you, I never thought I'd hear a moving cover of Rod Stewart's "Sailing".

And another vote here for the Nine Horses album. Fantastic stuff - lusher and jazzier than Sylvian's last solo album (which was also great, but in a different way).

isnt Matts Gudarfson (sp?) Swedish?? the guy who does free jazz/noise covers of garage songs?

- Truly superb album.
I think Nine Horses and The Good Son vs The Only Daughter have been my two favourite CD purchases this year.
I've never been a fan of Sylvian's work in Japan oddly enough but his solo stuff is great.
I'd also suggest people check out Burnt Freedmans material, particularly the releases with AtomHeart under the name FLANGER .
Some really groundbreaking stuff.

I really like the Aaly Trio stuff. But this is really far from S. Nordenstam soundwise..

She (Stina Nordenstam) does such great music. Totally original, understated and beautiful.

I like everything by her. She's brilliant, challenging and ever-changing. One of my favorite Christmas songs is hers... from that "Memories..." album. I tried to cover it for one of the KvR contests a few years ago, but couldn't do it justice...

'And She Closed Her Eyes' is a lovely album, perfect for that particular mood. I thought that was all the Stina I needed, but recently I picked up 'The World Is Saved' for a song, and I think it may be better still. Greater variety of texture, very satisfying combination of the wispy and robust.

Oh, true about the differences in sound - a bit of music word association was going on in my head there. Having said that, I think that the electro-acoustic stuff on dynamite might appeal to free jazz noise-niks
