JamStix is the best damn program in the world for making drum tracks. It's almost a religious experience for me, since I've been so frustrated with my drum programming for so long.

Go to www.rayzoon.com and buy the JamStix Jamboree. I absolutely promise you that you'll think it's the best money you've ever spent on music software.

Yeah, I know I sound over-the-top. Try the demo, and you'll see why. :D

Grey,

I just finished checking it out, and really like the idea of having Jamstix act as sort of a smart drum player, etc... I saw this when it came out, but never investigated it, figuring that I had enough loops. However, this is a different (and more efficient) way of setting the table, once again.

I'm prolly gonna grab this one. So, you're suggesting the drum packs, as well? Is one better off using a a sampler (e.g. Battery) and going that route, or are the drum packs just as good? FYI: I've already got some pretty good drum samples for Battery, and wasn't sure if I should buy the drum packs or not. However, it looks like Jamstix is a keeper.

Thanks, again for the heads up on this one- much appreciated, once again. :D

If you want to keep up, hang around kvraudio. Besides DK+, you might want to check out Linplug RMIV and FXpansion DR008. Both have demoes. As for Jamstix, the main deal is that it can jam parts based on what you play. You slow down, it slows down. You get more complicated, it gets more complicated. 8)

Go grab the demo and read the web site:

I appreciate your pointers, man. However, I don't want to spend too much time online, if ya know what I mean.

I'm aware that RMIV is out, but I already have Battery and samples for it. However, I had no idea what DK+ was all about and Jamstix went right past me, because I thought I was fixed for drums. However, if I can find a new way to create, it changes the equation. In this case, I'd rather spend $100-$150 toward a more efficient way to be puttin' it down.

Actually, I've been watching this site to find some Christmas sales, and managed to get in on a few. This whole drums thing has caught me off-guard and now I'm looking at Jamstix and DK+. :hihi:

Yeah, my advice is to get the Jamboree, because the extra drum packs sound great, and you also end up with some more drum patterns integrated into JamStix as a result.

On the free-jamming thing, though, I don't think it will speed up or slow down with your playing. JamStix plays at the host's tempo, not the tempo of your input. However, its volume and complexity will vary according to your input. This is the one missing piece for me, because I'd like to be able to play guitar into my sequencer at free tempo and have the drums follow me. I bitched about this recently in another thread and got some great advice: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... t=greylion

I'm interested in trying out the Circular Logic program's demo, and have messed a bit with Beat Detective in the M-Powered ProTools LE 7 demo this month. Long way to go on making this particular issue easy, I think.....

Take care,

Yes I second Jamstix. Currently I'm arranging a couple of Christmas songs for my wife (which she uses at school for kids to sing along with), and I even use Jamstix for that... It can do more than just blues/rock/jazz :D
