I don't use reverb much, so even though I can see the potential for higher quality VST verbs it's not something I have much interest in. But hey, developers need to develop!

Aha, perhaps this is already available, but I want a sidechaining VST compressor that works the same way as the dbAudioware DX one. That would be very useful.

If by "sidechaining vst compressor" you mean spectral fx, than I agree.
What is special about the dbAudioware? Is there a specific feature?

One instance of the plugin communicates with another, i.e. one streams the source to the other which performs the ducking duties. Instead of the Crunchessor model of having 2 stereo inputs with is less versatile in terms of routing.

That plug is as perfect as a plug can be, if only it's parameter were open to automation...chagzuki wrote:Aha, perhaps this is already available, but I want a sidechaining VST compressor that works the same way as the dbAudioware DX one.
That's what I want for christmas, db-D with automation, couldn't care less for a VST version.

I voted for 'reverb', simply because I'd like to see one of the major players like Eventide or Lexicon to release their high end algorithms in VST format and silence the software skeptics. Like Chagzuki, I'm not actually a huge fan of reverb, although something that could help reproduce the sound of those classic 60s/70s Motown orchestras would be much appreciated
Other than that, some more cool FSU plugins would be great... My fave so far is dBlue Glitch.
What would be really great is a scratching effect, which buffered a specified number of measures of a tune and allowed you to scratch back and forth using MIDI or perhaps timecoded vinyl, a la Final Scratch. Would be great to be able to scratch what your band were playing almost-live (obviously to scratch forwards you need a delay of a bar or so, to fill the buffer up to a musically useful point).

Horses for courses, I suppose. All I can say is that I wouldn't even scrape your standard host reverb off the sole of my shoes. If you're into reverbs, there is a huge difference between quality and standard. And most native ones are standard at best.Come on, people, how many reverbs do we really need? I've never had a need to use a different Reverb than whatever was included with the program (FL, Reason, Acid).
Chagzuki...I suppose it's not really a cheap option, but did you know that DB QuantumFX now has its own sidechaining in v2? It works exactly the same way as the old ProComp etc as you stated. And....you can use the sidechain the same way for things like sidechained filtering etc (in fact one of the presets is a sidechain filter)Aha, perhaps this is already available, but I want a sidechaining VST compressor that works the same way as the dbAudioware DX one. That would be very useful.
And you're right - it's the best implementation of sidechaining there is. Any FX you patch in QFX with a sidechain uses the same method.

I would like processor that takes in audio, and replicates this signal x times. e.g x<30
You have a edit panel for each of these x replicates/subgroups of replicates, with basic eq and (more importantly) envelope/stretching adjustments, and perhaps some other colouring fx. You could cut down the complexity by having some kind of intelligent auto-function applied to subgroups.
The altered signals are then recombined at the output stage.
I came up with this idea as a way to get that Enya vocals sound after reading somewhere here that that effect was created by layering up to 30 takes of the same vocal, each recorded and treated differently.
I emailed ben camel audio about it but he didn't get back to me about it so if someone else makes it I'll be happy

Sounds excellent Kritikon, but I think it exceeds my budget. I'm not sure I'd get that much use out of QuantumFX in other ways, and I sure can't pay that much just for a sidechain comp.

Amp sims, tube sims, that sort of thing. Yes, there are a lot of them, and many of them do rule -- but none of them really sound or respond like the real thing.
Oh, and a really good, soft, non-metallic reverb would rock my world.
