Interesting. I've had my 5080 for a few years and a best friend has a Triton (and I have a Wavestation too), so I have played extensively with both, not to mention many other Roland & Korg synths over the years, and they definitely have a distinct character (same with Yamaha - I tend to think of Yamaha as dry, dead, crystal and upfront).aliengroover wrote:And Beej, I see your descriptions of the Roland and Korg "sounds" totally opposite. Korg is totally toppy and "thinner". I typically rely on my Roland for more of the meat and the Korg for the butter on top. But hey, sounds are subjective.
It partly depends on the sounds you are drawn too i guess, but is more likely difficulty in translating the sound into words - I suck at that
EDIT: By the way, the success of the M1 I reckon is largely down to it was the right feature set at the right time, as well as sounding great. As a complete package it offered a huge value for the money.
The success of the D50 was more down to the fact it sounded completely unlike anything else and did stuff that synths couldn't traditionally do - and that was largely down to our own Eric Persing and the rest of the sound design team, who really did an incredible job.
