Lol, this is one of those question isnt it - when someone asks you, your mind goes completely blank!
I remember their being some interesting sound design towards the end of Aliens. More sci fi than horror I guess though.
Will have a think and get back to you.

You're probably right, I don't know the film that well to recall the incidental stuff, Its just the overall prog-rock style of the theme/music that isn't to my taste.cgnat wrote:So many good sounds and music in this film. One of my favorites: the sounds preceding the attack of the guide dog at the blind pianist..cgnat wrote:Suspiria

"What an excellent day for an exorcism."
"That's much too vulgar a display of power, Karras."
"Your mother sucks cocks in Hell, Karras, you faithless slime."
"Especially important is the warning to avoid conversations with the demon. We may ask what is relevant but anything beyond that is dangerous. He is a liar. The demon is a liar. He will lie to confuse us. But he will also mix lies with the truth to attack us. The attack is psychological, Damien, and powerful. So don't listen to him. Remember that - do not listen."
"It's a stylized ritual in which rabbis or priests try to drive out the so-called invading spirit. It's pretty much discarded these days, except by the Catholics who keep it in the closet as a sort of embarrassment. It has worked, in fact, although not for the reason they think, of course. It was purely the force of suggestion. The victim's belief in possession helped cause it; and just in the same way this belief in the power of exorcism can make it disappear."
"Do you know what she did, your c**ting daughter?"
"Keep away. The sow is mine."
"I think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us."

I think Alien is fundamentally horror, Aliens is fundamentally Sci-fi, and the other alien films are fundamentally shiat.tee boy wrote: More sci fi than horror I guess though.

IMO, Argento is VERY overrated. Personaly I prefer Bava to Argento any day of the week.Robert W wrote:I really dislike this soundtrack its completely over the top, but it suits the melodrama of the film, in fact, I don't really like the film - thats probably why I dislike the soundtrack..etc...etc...cgnat wrote:Suspiria

Well, they are both cross genre films but I see Aliens more as an Action film than Sci-Fi. There isn't really much in the way of Sci-Fi ideas in the film for it to really qualify, IMO, as such. As far as I'm concerned there haven't been very many "real" Sfi-Fi films made since the 70's. Dumbing down of the masses and all... I suppose.Robert W wrote:I think Alien is fundamentally horror, Aliens is fundamentally Sci-fi, and the other alien films are fundamentally shiat.tee boy wrote: More sci fi than horror I guess though.

I concede to that, my judgement was hampered by my desire to hastily create a funny snippet deriding Alien 3.John Vulich wrote:I see Aliens more as an Action film than Sci-Fi.
