I'm waiting to see what Open Labs has to show at NAMM. A keyboard that can also run my sequencer and play Carmageddon would be much more useful to me.

Quite many buzz words in there, as it's really quite similar to open synth neko, but with everything but the OS locked and propietary.

Seems like the oasys keyboard is a softsynth at its heart.

I got the impression no propietary DSP chips were used.

Apparently, it's a vanilla linux install, with no internal mods. Korg are apparently being meticulous about GPL compliance, and it looks like all their proprietary material is properly isolated. Good show Korg!

I remember when Slashdot picked up the announcement of the OASYS. Oh my, the negativity and clueless comments!

It's quite similar to TC system 6000... That's actually running windows NT for the IO and GUI.

Nope, you are wrong. It's a P4 processor and a AOpen MX4GVR MB and a custom version of Linux doing all the job, including effects. I thought that at least the effects were done by dedicated DSP processors but n o they are software generated.

Sure Korg have added some additional hardware parts for sound (probably based on some on the market soundcard), keyboard etc but in theory it would be possible to really "crack" Oasys, i.e. install and run the OS on a normal PC.

Booting Windows or Linux on a Oasys is not cracking it.

$8000 Korg OASYS - cracked.
