Some stuff I will try to check out today... Giga's VI. Although I fear it may only be Windows and not Mac. However, I guess the larger part of the market IS still PC but... I use both myself so I like to reach EVERYONE. We'll still support Giga this year anyway to reach that audience (finally) with products like Studio ProFiles and Infinite Instrument Series. (check the KVR news! Ben, can you add our booth #6331? Also there's logos for those products at www.sonicreality.com/press ).
Giga Violin looks interesting. I will have to listen to the Gigapulse resonant body emulation. Reminds me of the old Moog String Filter.
Nothing new from Spectrasonics this year which is surprising. Although I am sure Stylus RMX is going strong so you don't HAVE to have something new every time there is a show.
Eric is a smart man. Mucho respect.
Vienna Instruments I hear are impressive and I will try to check that out. I have the VSL in my collection (along with Miroslav which btw sound nice together). Although I know it isn't something everyone can afford. I think many composers have all of the good orchestral collections and VIs though. But, out of all of us musicians I hate to tell ya but where the money is at is in composing for media and songwriting in general.
(something Squids COULD be doing... and our customers do and LAUGH at how hard we work on the sounds they can use and make tens of thousands of dollars on from one day in the studio, one song or album... ah well! That's the point!!!! Go make some music -either for the love or money!
I am probably still drunk. I am not much of a drinker so give me a bunch of wine and vodka and you have a sloppy Squids on your hands... hmmmm, maybe not the best explanation there.
But, who gives? "Let's hear more about NAMM you twit!"
Ok, ok. I'll do my best. I am busy from the beginning to end and it is tought to walk the show. But, you have to understand that I have been going to NAMM shows for 18 years and haven't missed one! It is like one big music store to me... especially for funky world instruments which I collect. But, also software.
Oh, Waves has a package of SSL plug-ins that I'd like to have. Scared to know the price though.
Some cool new keyboard controllers as well from Yamaha and Korg (also a sharp looking MPC-like interface). I didn't bring my camera this year (idiot!!!) but my phone has one so maybe I will snap a few and post. I am sure someone else can do it better though. A full scoping of the cool gear people want to see here.
I still think the Hakken Continuum Fingerboard is one of the coolest instruments ever made. Don't know if there is anything like that around.
Yesterday I helped present the new Stomp IO and StealthPlug to the press. That was an honor to do. I am very passionate about it even though my main instrument is keys, not guitar. But, I play a little of everything. Sonic Reality may even have some things to throw into those packages as well...
aha! "Get Squids Drunk! Get Squids Drunk!"
AT2 February baby! Maybe even Ampeg SVX!!! Also CSR? Miroslav Refills THIS month. Studiophonik in Spring... and in case anyone was wondering, "Infinite Drums" is what became of "I-Drums".
Will be released in 3 titles between now and the Summer.

Good morning, Squids.
The Infinite Drums series looks great. One question: will you include BFD versions? It would seem logical, as there will be control for bleed, ambience, etc.
Have a great second day and watch the vino tonight.

Here's the scoop on that. BFD multitrack drums are done differently than the Infinite Drums. Infinite Drums is designed around a max of about 2-3 stereo mic layers and then the interactive bleed and snare rattle is simulated intelligently and efficiently... similar to Interactive Drums but more advanced. Inifnite Drums is designed to work in many samplers efficiently and CPU/polyphony conscious.fgrittner wrote:Good morning, Squids.

On the other hand, Studio ProFiles' drum kits are the same individual mics you find in the loop and those happen to be done almost PERFECT for BFD (which is why those kits WILL be in BFD format).
Now, the third Infinite Drums title in the series is called "Infinite Drums Session" and the kits in that one are based on types of sound from recording techniques and it happens to be a compilation of Studio ProFile playable kits (no loops) to get in one go (in case that is what one wanted the most from the Studio ProFile titles and didn't want to have to spend $3,000 just to get access to the awesome kits on there!).
What we MAY do and this isn't announced yet but you know... Squids can't keep a secret. We may also do the ID Session title in a deluxe BFD edition or something. This will be something people can upgrade to from Studio ProFiles or from the regular version for a reasonable price. It might even be a limited edition offer in BFD. Or it might be something that people buy it in the most... I actually DO have the full multitrack mics of the other two libraries as well (some that weren't done during loop sessions). But, that would take going back yet AGAIN to those archives (which we've been working on for YEARS btw and it is all unreleased material in case you were wondering... apart from a taste of it in the Combi Drum Group Buy, a mere taste). However, if our BFD support does well then we may just go back even to the original IDK and Studio Drum Capsule sessions and release the multichannel sessions in BFD. I know a lot of people who would like to have that! However, we're proud to be releasing so much new session material that people are hearing for the first time now!
Either way you slice it there will be ways to get your hands on all of this stuff for a reasonable deal. I have drums and loops coming out of my tentacles this year. We actually have over a Terabyte of drum sample sessions. Crazy.

You got that right!Squids wrote:I still think the Hakken Continuum Fingerboard is one of the coolest instruments ever made. Don't know if there is anything like that around.
Maybe one day i'll be able to afford one... I'll keep dreaming for now. I hope Lippold Haken has been recording some footage of people demonstrating the instrument because I think the potential expressive performance is unrivaled at the moment.

The thing is since the controller is relatively new, noone has had a chance to get very good at playing one, but i'm sure since those videos were made there will be more people proficient at playing the Continuum so would love to see this in action.
