Don't buy the Live if you already have the XT. Why? Because it's cheaper to buy just the expression pedal, and end up with something very similar. Plus, it's easier to replace just the pedal when -- not `if'! -- it dies. Line 6 have superb software, but their hardware leaves a lot to be desired...
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

you can choose on the ASIO driver wether you want to send the following:

This means that the USB cable will carry THIS signal, and your outputs can carry the wet signal. It is much easier on a podxt pro, but xt does similar.

hink, if you haave ANY other questions about the podxt let me know, I would be free to demo some stuff or whatever too.Hink wrote:can you send a signal out the analog outs at the same time as the usb...in other words can I monitor through my card out the analog jacks and record through usb and does it have asio drivers?

Actually, re-amping goes through the usb again.soundpalace wrote:Yep, I try to get the tone right first and then record. The reason I do this is because the GuitarPort only has a high impedance guitar in while your PodXT has proper analog ins so you can run the guitar into the amp at a later stage.
It's not necessary, cos amp can always be heard, even when redording dry.soundpalace wrote:How about getting a splitter cable that splits your guitar signal to 2 places, that way you can record the dry guitar through a input on your audio card (must be high impedance obviously) and the other goes to the PodXT so you hear the amp while recording.
Which leads to Hink's original question... You shouldn't need to monitor with soundcard, cos you can route everything to podxt (when recording). You can record dry or wet signal and monitor wet signal with rest of the mix. And podxt's asio driver does all this.
The asio4all method i was referring earlier can be used if you want to hear how different amp settings sound in a mix. AFAIK podxt can't do it by itself, cos if you re-amp guitar, rest of the mix gets wet too.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I try to avoid using USB with the POD XT Live. If I'm going to use the POD, I'll use a DI. I'll send the direct from the DI to the POD and then run stereo 1/4 outs from the POD to my soundcard. I'll run the XLR out of the DI (the dry signal) to my soundcard. Then if I want to reamp (to an amp or to the POD), I use Radial XAmp and send the dry recording to the POD and back again to the soundcard. I have good enough soundcards and converters (Mini-me, Mini-dac, and MOTU Traveler) to make this very workable. I noticed no difference in sound quality. I like to just stick with my ASIO driver on my card and run things into Ableton Live.
If you want a pedal, I think the XT Live is plenty durable, although it may not be worth upgrading from what you already have.
