But is it true that you can't resell it? If so, they really HAVE to give buyers that peace of mind...Left Headphone wrote:The free upgrades is the icing on the cake...
FL Studio is amazing. Why is it so cheap?

Actually I only emboldened it because it made the sentence hard to read.

I was just about to question that, but checked the orion website and noticed that platinum is £199. Has the price gone down?BONES wrote:Or, of course, I could get you-know-what with all the bases of XXL covered and a whole lot more besides for the same price as the Producer Edition of FL.

If you read the fine-print you'll see that they aren't selling the boxed version until they sort out new sample content and get more discs pressed so you can get a download version for $50 off.

And there is another reason why FLStudio may appear to be cheap - their pricing (and upgrade) policy is geared heavily toward downloading as opposed to selling boxed versions which incur the additonal expense of CD-ROMs and fancy packaging.BONES wrote:If you read the fine-print you'll see that they aren't selling the boxed version until they sort out new sample content and get more discs pressed so you can get a download version for $50 off.
I'm a big fan of FlStudio - I think it represents fantastic value for money as its an entire 'studio-in-software' and the lifetime free upgrades are awesome. Its not perfect, but it does everything I need - and its fun to use!

I paid $99. for mine back in the 3.0 days... I have 6.0 now, and still don't use it! But I like the idea that they stuck to the "lifetime free upgrades" they promised! It's a very well designed program, and nice interface... Although I prefer a Linear sequencer myself!
But I can appreciate quality, when I see it

Again!?! Once was quite enough, thanks. And they reckon you can't get it from toilet seats. Bah!

I agree that their business model is fantastic. I'm particularly glad that you don't have to buy all the generators, since, imo, most of them are harsh sounding and/or too fiddly. That said, the actual sequncer itself is a brilliant piece of craftsmanship.

Sytrus is amazing though.

$348 for Producer XXL is right high I think. You almost have to get in on that deal to get Sytrus, really the only decent synth in the IL lot. Most of the generators are handy toys but nothing stellar in there.
You could for $150 get Tracktion 2 boxed for linear work and a great mastering suite, buy eXT for $50 to drop into T2 for modular work, pick up a few VST's for free or on sale cheap here at KVR (someone is always selling Wusik, zeta+, Rhino, etc for 1/2 price) and have a totally monster setup for still less than the Producer (edit: XXL) edition.
FL really isn't cheaper than the other hosts out there when you compare apples to apples. And they don't put alot of R&D into the program so that keeps their costs down. Sure you get lifetime upgrades but they [IL] are so s-l-o-w to release new useful features that you end up behind in the technology curve. Wake up!!

I hate to be a fanboy but as far as I can tell my CD player in my car can only play 44.1khz 16 bit recordings. =( But my studio computer is a different story.sdv wrote:FL really isn't cheaper than the other hosts out there when you compare apples to apples.
