Why not create effects that can have their parameters linked to midi notes, so when you play a part the effects are constantly changing? I don't really have the lingo down to convey what I'm talking about, so humor me!
This is possible when I use EnergyXT to host my VST stuff and then link midi plugins to it that can send out your own defined midi controller number and then a value assigned to the note you play. Can't remember which midi plugins I used (possibly one of/combination of Soma, Tobybear, ndc, Rozzer, NicFit plugins). EnergyXT gives you so many opportunites to experiment with this type of thing's because EnergyXT will let you assign midi controller data to pretty much any loaded VST instruments'/fxs' parameter :)

EDIT:- Just checked - NicFit 's nFNote2CCv2 converts note to midi CC
Windows 10. Asus X99-Pro i7 6950X 10 Core 3GHz (Overclocked to 3.5GHz). Corsair DDR4 64GB Vengeance LPX 2400MHz. RME RayDAT. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. UAD2 Quad+Octo. Reaper. A couple of plugins.

...didn't see one that would do that, but there is quite a tool box here...

Yeah, there is.

Nicfit's MIDImunger

Documentation is on the page, but just ask if you have any problems.

Most reverbs, with eq flat, only deliver frequencies accoriding to the input. You can't get out any frequencies that you don't put in. With that in mind - I don't see a lot of reason to have a midi-controllable band pass reverb. Unless you want to play white noise - in which case just use a synth with white noise.

In other words - if you want a reverb to output reverb at 1kHz - you just need to feed it a tone at 1kHz. So in a sense, any reverb is basically doing what you want anyway. Or if you want a midi controlled eq effect, that's a seperate effect that could be applied to anything, including but not limited to reverb.

You use reverb impulse responses as samples in a sampler, and play them with the samplers keyboard controlled filter.
