another question for sample users:
should i normalize all samples to 0 dB?
or play it by ear ... get them all to *sound* (subjectively) about the same volume?

Most of your questions have already been answered.
Concerning "melodies" and "normalizing": the only samples I use as whole loops or melodies are those I can mangle and change, including making some parts louder and so on. So I'd like melodic-Rachmiel(will there be melodies the world knows of by now
) samples too, and as "raw material", not normalized or with effects, but maybe with remarks what you yourself would add.
