Audiomulch. I wouldn't really call it a DAW, though, but then, I generally don't ever use the term, so what do I know?
I think the lack of audio in recording precludes Reason from being considered a DAW in that list. Importing audio into the sampler just doesn't make up for that kind of a function. And since I know Reasonites are easily riled, I'll add that that isn't a criticism of Reason, it is plenty good for lots of things.
From that list, I have Tracktion, Live, and EnergyXT. I use eXT the most of that lot (use Audiomulch and Bidule much more still), so it gets my vote.

When XT2 comes out, the new mixer might be enough to swing it towards being my main DAW.
I keep pondering the upgrade to Sonar 5... but the 2-tracks-per-softsynth just frustrates me, despite my attempts to work with it.

I agree that the FUNCTIONS of Cubase SX3 and NUENDO are somewhat similar, but they are wildly different target users IMHO, and should be separated for purposes of this poll. The most obvious (and superficial)difference is that NUENDO is about 4 times the price of SX3 (and SX3 ain't cheap). But that alone puts NUENDO in a whole 'nother league of users.
I've never used another a computer DAW other than SX (each upgrade has made it even better in my opinion, so I've never had a reason to switch), but I've also had a couple of hardware DAWs in the past.
People here seem to be very passionate about Energy XT, though I'm not sure why. It looks like a fairly steep learning curve--are the rewards that great?
I would like to experiment with a couple of other hosts just to get a feel for what other people are doing. I will admit to being curious about FL Studio (and the fact that, aparently, you can load it like a VST into another host) and Tracktion (Mackie has the hardware down cold, so, I assume, they would know what would really work in a software environment. Neither one of these is priced to break the bank, so maybe, someday, if I find a little extra cash hiding the sofa cushions...
Anyone care to enlighten me on the joys of any of these?

Ableton Live - happy as the proverbial pig, although I keep a close eye on tracktions development.
I've also had sosme likkle playarounds with Reaper - which looks interesting.

Fl Studio is not the only host that can do that - eXT does the same...BERFAB wrote:I will admit to being curious about FL Studio (and the fact that, aparently, you can load it like a VST into another host)
I've had the same question about the learning curve, but hey, you read the manual, ask questions on the forum...definatelly worth the time you invest...
The best part, the demo lets you do everything and even lets you save projects, you're only not able to load them...but for that price - its a no-brainer...

I'd have voted VEGAS if it were there. I voted REAPER because it's actually closer to Vegas for my workflow than Acid is (at least for now) and suspect by the time Acid is "up to par" for my use, Reaper will be better yet.

I've been getting into Reaper lately and it's the only (vst)host installed at the moment. Also use Reason to some extent. But I will probably be shifting to Digital Performer soon, which isn't included on the list.
Other hosts I have, but not installed are Live and SX.
