I'll check it out! One thing's for sure: great name, easy to remember and cool to pronounce!

Thanks SO MUCH Darrel! Incredible that you give this great fft plugin away for free! I have a whole lot of tweeking to do now! :hyper:

Post

Hey everyone, if you make some good stuff with it, send me a link!
Don't forget to feel free to suggest things.

Post

will drop link to a 1/2 interesting track when i export it to this pc in year to come :p

suggestion - it may be possible, since i haven't empiric knowledge of this plugin yet, but..

..since 'omnivox' vst is no longer distributed, would you care to provide the world with a freeware that can conduct formant shifts using fft?

i have a 'wavecycle stretching/windowing' formant shifter i'll post soon, but it's a bit rough given my technique for zero crossings.

man this thing can mangle the living shit out of your sounds. I don't know anything about spectral theory or whatever the hell it is, but just sliding things and moving things around can produce drastic chaos. Definitely going to read up on spectral stuff because the power this dtblkfx plugin has is freaking insane. I played with a simple beat in phrazor using ephonic drumatic3, passed through gmulti into dotblkfx and had a blast for 18 solid minutes trying to just find a limit to what it could do. I couldn't find a limit, it kept on producing new stuff/different sounds. That combined with phrazors mixer really stunned me. I made somehow the beat say "el-nin-yo" and then towards the end of the 18 minutes I somehow made it sound like the beat was barking like a dog at me :)

here is experiment: http://www.funklabs.org/share/music/rec ... tblkfx.ogg (18mb, 18 min -- not all of it sounds neat either lots of it sounds like total dogshit, but if you are curious... )

darrel the only suggestion i have is to create some margin of white space between each lane/slot of effect on the UI. it gets confusing to figure out which arrow/slider goes with what slot, especially when you are intoxicated by the mangled result the plugin is producing :)

really cool plug, thanks!

this plug can make full aphex twin style stuff...so nice...

i get around the latency by making the delay 4 beats, then placing all the patterns that use DtBlkFx 4 beats ahead in the playlist in FL...and automation needs to be triggered early too...i find putting the delay at a block of 4 beats makes it easier to manage...

I had this thing in my folder for a week or so before I actually got to playing with it. Interesting to go back and read Darrell's intro re surgical Eq etc.

Dunno about the Eqing possibilities, but I haven't managed to get anything out of it that isn't squarely in the mangling category. Same as Grymmjack - I haven't found it particularlu useful on anything musical like instruments etc, but I can't stop playing with it on drums - it's a great for making real beats into electronic style beats, and then mangling them out of recognition. Good for adding some resonant oomph to snares and kicks too.

To be honest...the GUI gives me more or less no idea whatsoever about what I'm doing with it :?. I'm not sure that bothers me particularly - you just play with controls until something interesting happens...but if I were to try anything more along the lines of Eq - I think I'd prefer to know what's doing what to what :hihi:

Suggestions - it glitches a bit with some sliders (I can't tell you which controls, because I have no idea what the controls are :P ) so it really would be nice to have some form of modulation on it. Just the odd simple LFO or even envelope to attach to one or maybe two controls (I haven't really tried automation within my host yet, so I can't attest to whether that glitches or not); and slow LFOs too. This thing is very suited to subtle slow introductions of mangling IMO, not mad rapid swooshes.

Very tasty though. Sometimes useful, sometimes not. I have no f**king idea what it is in the slightest, but it mangles up my beats nicely - good on some dub I'm working on at the moment. It'll be a great FX to introduce somehow onto a sparse drum breakdown with lots of delays and subtle changes.

Initially I put it in my Eq FX plugin folder.
Now it will definitely be moved to the "other" FX plugin folder. But I think it'll stay there. Tahnks for making it free  :D
