What is this strange thing of which you speak?

For some reason that invokes images of some hairy Southern Morris-dancer in a beard, strumming away at his guitar with a stomp box to trigger his 909 samples. I have to say, it doesn't sound nice to me. I don't think even Purple Compressor would help it in any way.

ir's amazing value. it's purple and you get 5 valves... what more could you ask for.

I agree. Voxengo Marquis comes really close but it's a bit too coloured to be useful for mastering. In certain situations it's just what is needed but so far I haven't found the "holy grail" in any digital device when it comes to mastering compression.

I tried them all on pristine samples bathed in pure mountain spring water and I can tell you without a doubt that purple compressor is the best

and it's got the best GUI of any vst I've ever seen
you can almost feel the valves working

Would you believe a person if he told you he has?

Personally I don't even bother trying out certain kind of plugins, as other people in this forum have already put them through their paces and call me if something is worth testing, before my download of a demo version is finished

TC Electronic MD/Brickwall should be on this list. It's the same algorithm as is in the System 6000, used by a lot of big time mastering guys. The Universal Audio Precision Limiter, EQ, & Multiband should also be on this list.

The PSP MasterComp bumped Marquis from my mastering chain. Perfect? Well, it won't keep me from buying a hardware compressor. But it sounds really great. Very transparent, very kind to transients.

Uncle E....... Used the System 6000 last week at SMS NY. Blew everything i've ever used out of the water. Contacted GC Pro and I now own one. This unit is beyond words.

The MD3/Brickwall plug-ins for Powercore are the same algorithm as is in the System 6000. Personally, I prefer having my mastering tools as plug-ins, it's just a shame there are so few plug-ins up to this level of quality. The Powercore VSS3, DVR2, & NonLin2 are also algorithms from the System 6000.

Its also the reverbs etc etc including 5.1 and ability to convert from mono, stereo LCR LtRt to 5.1/6.1 thats stunning. NR etc.The whole system 6000 package, mastering being only a part. We had one of the engineers from Sony Mastering (who were using it for SACD mastering) come down to Studio E and take us throught it and it blew us away. Even includes a good monitor matrix which is key as we need to switch from nearfields to full range to a pm3 certified mix/listening facility. I'd recommend it to anyone and already have.
