its also about visualization!

seeing them means alot!

not to me, not at all  - I can see however how it can be useful for someone who's just starting out ;-) - but in the long run no notes/beats/accents should be arbitrary/accidentally so I think you as the composer/arranger/producer should always know where exactly they are and hence you do not need to have a visual representation of them when you are working on one certain pattern... ;-)

One day you'll get the picture... :hihi:
yeah, okay old fella, whatever  :P

jens wrote:good idea about the docking, but for me the most imprtant thing about the piano-roll window would be that it recalls its size and position...

I almost always use the piano-roll maximized - for me there's usually no reason to seee anything else when editing midi - and as I rather often play two-handed patterns which have a range of up to four or five octaves having the window not maximized means a lot of scrolling/zooming...
But what if you want your different tracks to talk to each other.. Ya know, think abou the whole mix, SEE how you can program you bass along with the drum track. That, i guesse, is the main advantage of inline editing.. You can program multiple things at once, and create music that gels well with itself..
I can do that perfectly well without seeing the other tracks

a. because I composed/played/programmed them and know what they're doing

b. because I'm hearing them

It's all about skills, you know? ;-)

Wow jens.. You are one arrogant asshole.. :P
The following statement is true.
The previous statement is false.

You asked for it when you said that I can't create music that gels with itself because I almost always maximize the piano-roll...

I can't seem to get it to open on the track I've recorded - it just opens in a default position and I have to scroll around to find the recorded bits?

Also is there a way to record automation yet? I notice some options for recording fader positions but it doesn't seem to pick up knob movements etc.
