Chordspace VS ChordME

This is why I'm glad that my computer programming teacher got some terrible flu when I was 7 years old and I never learned how to code:
I'd love to do what benjamind is doing, but I'd reaaaaly love to do that for microtonal scales, a sort of VST version of fractal tunesmithy's re-tuning ability. I extimate it would take 45.802 years to make.
Great idea, benjamind. I suspect you've earned the enmity of one of KVR's meanest flamers and the adoration of the common musician.

sounds interesting!benjamind wrote:I'm unsure what you mean by "full notes midi chords writing"...could you please elaborate? It's not a sequencer. It doesn't record incoming MIDI, but it will process notes on your keyboard so that all white keys are mapped to the chosen scale. On the chord circle page you'll be able to assign black keys to the chords in the circle. It basically will output MIDI. However, I am thinking of adding a little grid editor so one can create a chord progression and then play it, which will output MIDI to MIDIYoke or something like that, and record the MIDI input from MIDIYoke in their sequencer.
It's a lot like the original ChordSpace, but I will be using a graphic design that is different from hexagrams. You will see when it's ready to go. I will be writing this utility with VB 2005 Express and using the MIDI-OX component object model for handling the MIDI stuff which means it will be streamlined for ease of use and it will hopefully be bug free when it is released.
I'm currently in love with CSplayer
to find a plug in that tops this would be hard (IMO)
the only thing i see missing from player is extra chords & a option to learn a chord, witch is covered in other plugs, but i want to learn a chord & then play it back using the player style strum & random settings!
chord ME has come a long way & is a very useful easy to use/understand plugin!
i use all 3 of them

It won't be in VST format but rather a standalone application, but trust me it will be stable. The MIDIOX COM system is supposedly one of the most stable virtual MIDI systems out there. The bugs will be ironed out and it should be ready hopefully before the end of the year. I'm working hard on the design scheme right now. I have barely started coding the skeleton as yet. But I know where it's at, and what I want to do.
When it comes to clicking on chords and the chord extensions, it is very similar to ChordSpace but instead of hexagrams they are squares, each square is one of the basic chords, all the triads, and quads are covered, so each square is one of those chords, you choose your scale and the chords will be displayed in groups, each group representing an interval in the scale.
With each chord square you have subsquares. These subsquares may represent anything related to the basic chord in the square. I found squares easier to work with than hexagrams. Even though I could use hexagrams if I really wanted to, I didn't find them as intuitive as squares, not to mention that nasty feeling I'd get from copying someone else's ideas
I plan to have a screen where you can put any chord you like in a chase chart and assign a black key on your keyboard to each of the chords in the chase chart. Each chord in the chase chart can be selected from any scale, which allows you to play the scale over that chord using the white keys. I know this would be useful so that's why I decided to put it in. You can also play the white keys when you're on the main chord group screen so that will allow you to jam with whatever chord you're playing.
All ideas are of course subject to change, but I'm pretty sure this is how it will be done.
Oh, and I forgot to mention...It will be free

With all the tools out there still nothing beats a good theory book. Harmonic theory is something that no plugin or software tool or even a book will truly give you. Only experience can give you that.
I'm working in the design stage of my app. I should have the initial design worked out by the end of the month. Then the coding starts...this is where the fun begins. I've done plenty of coding before, but the new VB 2005 express interface takes a bit of getting around.

@benjamind: really looking forward to using your app. Great idea to include all triads while keeping the concept of loading the "correct notes" on white keys. It should allow one to cover any style of composition.

Can you set up chord me to every note a maj 7th or 9th
then automate a change so you could keep playing a groove
but the chord alters ?

Not really at the moment although I am planning a major overhaul for ChordME in the future to hopefully include features such as that and random inversions etc. I can't give any dates as to when though as I am still working on my thesis and wont be starting it until I've finished that. If you have any ideas or feature requests though feel free to let me knowleighbeynon wrote:Can you set up chord me to every note a maj 7th or 9th

ok fair enough, yeah id like to see maj, min chords 7ths, 9th, 13ths, aug, diminished across the keys,
with your own presets, and automation so you change chords,
or maybe a keybord split could work ??
im having lessons but cant see me being able to produce the style im trying to achieve for another 5-10 years i imagine
