The first time I ever felt some kind of "sensuality", as far as music is concerned, was when I FINALLY understood what exactly was meant by barring a chord on a guitar. I'll never forget it. It was one of the "AAAHHHHHH" moments, and the guitar's apparent size quite literally exploded; I truly and completely grasped what all it was actually capable of (and how little I knew about it).

The next time was when I opened a sequencer, filled in very other space on a kick drum sample, pressed play and heard "thump, thump, thump, thunp"... it will never be like that again.

All the same, my only gripe with VST's and such is the power they need. The next time I feel something even remotely close will be when I can have a setup that allows me to play and compose everything I want in my host and not have to worry about lack of resources. If I could make an entire composition in one project and be able to fix things as needed without having to record all the time... :harp:

whenever I see someone mention that I think of the old tcp syn flooder of the same name hehe

yup - e.g. voice recognition will hopefully come at some point...

'track bass-guitar - first chorus - loop-recording - start'

There are all sorts of ways to do that.

I'm waiting for induction to become practical.

For example, in their time vsti and rewire were unlimited in what it offered the computer musician.

Name a comparable concept since then?

I can think of synful? which was a very inventive concept, but what else.

It seems to me it consolidation time, this seems to come after a burst of inventive energy.
Your thinking is kind of...narrow. For me, rewire is, so what? I wouldn't describe it as a mind blowing invention. It's a work-around to a problem, and it just happens to float your boat. I don't think it will be remembered along with analog tape, the electric guitar, synthesis, multitracking, and digital sequencing and recording as an apex in recording history.
I can't name a comparable concept, because if I could think of it, I would implement it, and I would be rich right now. Someone will invent, I don't know... a new way to interface with instruments, an open format system for recording and sequencing without using computers... who knows?
Maybe we are in a "refining" stage right now, maybe you are impatient for the next big thing, maybe you won't live long enough to see it, but I think your age is showing. Either old enough to be jaded, or young enough to imagine you've seen it all.
You're just talking about tools. I think we need a revolution in thought... in art. Tools are just tools.

Why not?

How do I do it exactly then?

Could you please list all the neccessary I must take so that eXT reacts when I give orders with my voice?

Or if it isn't possible with eXT which other squencer is capable of it?

I'm curios.

Set up an interface between a voice recognition program and your sequencer.

and how does the external voice recognition programme control eXT then? :?

That would depend on the programs you choose to do it with.

It is possible. I doubt there's a pre-written interface.

It is not possible - you do not seem to understand - it needs to be implemented at a level of the sequencer where external programmes can't be of any help. Try once to control the host of your choice while the monitor is switched off. Both keyboard input and mouse input are optimized for a situation where you sit directly in front of your computer and stare at the screen. When I talk about voice recongnition I obviously mean a situation where this dependence is no longer given. So I can walk around in my studio and while I prepare my bass-guitar, switch on the preamp, etc. I give eXT orders just like I would give a person which works as my assistant. He of course needs to comprehend what I mean without me needing to stare at the screen and to control what he does (because if I had to I could as well do it on my own right from the start and where'd be his use then?).

Note the code I used in my example: 'track bass-guitar - first chorus - loop-recording - start'

How should the voice programm and eXT being able to communicate regarding a certain track called 'bass-guitar'? Only eXT itself knows which track is the one called 'bass-guitar' - I can't use the key-commands track up/down because as I'm not staring at the screen I don't know what track currently is selected. If I however use the command 'bass-guitar' (a command highly usable for the voice but not for the keyboard and not for the mouse) it doesn't matter what track currently is selected because eXT jumps directly to the right one. Controlling a sequencer by voice would have to follow an entirely different logic than controlling it by voice or by keyboard and the only way to impelement this logic is within the programme itself.

See , now I had to type all that crap which should have been obvious to you right from the start. But apparently it wasn't. Do you still think it's possible?

I know it's possible. You may have to change "bass guitar" to "track 3" but it's not anything that you can't handle. If you look through the links on that page... there are all sorts of programs that will do it.

eXT simply can't be controlled externally in that way - and I don't know any sequencer which can - neither by midi nor by key-commands... a few commands are obviously possible (start, stop, record - commands like that) - but that's not the real deal I was speakling about...

Hosts.....

That's purely a Catholic thing, not?
