The only one I've given a good going over is NI's Vokator because it came with Komplete. The learning curve on it is a little high if you don't give the manual a good going over and it looks deceptively underpowered until you really start delving into it (or at least that's what I found). But I was able to get really, really good results from it in several different applications.
For example, I used it in one of my KVR contest entries (available here, track #4). It's in the third part of the song, just after the Jazz part. It's only 3 lines but each is made up of like 5 layers of different Vokator effected voice.
I've also used it to impart the rhythm of one guitar part onto a non-rhythmic guitar on a tune of a friend's CD (Go to Latest CD/Song Clips and then track #4 again for a sample. It's the quaivering/shimmering guitar part).
It's too easy to use vocoders only for vocals, but they are actually extremely interesting to use as active filters, using one extended audio wav to modulate another instrument.

Hi there. Been tracking this thread with interest. Downloaded the MDA pack to try out talkbox. Could someone please explain how to use Talkbox? I was hoping there would be a small guide with the plug pack but, seems not

I use 4ormulator: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1164.html. Mind that you have to open the interface, otherwise it doesn't work.

Sorry, but I think you don't know Robotronic. Image Line's vocoder ( You mean the one in FL, don't you? ) is only a toy for very limited use. With Robotronic you can make the classic fx as well as contemporary ones. You can route both channels like you want to. You can use the internal synth as well as an external, like Albino3 for instance. You can tweak every parameter fully free. I bought 4ormulator as well, it is VERY nice for $50.4ormulator has depth and can produce some very unique sounds, the developer just needs to improve and update it more because it has potential to be really great. I eventually want another like akai d.c. vocoder wich is simple but great sounding.

So you put carrier (synth pad or something) on the left channel, modulator on the right channel (voice) (or vice versa, I don't remember actually) of one mixer track, mda talkbox will make vocoded mono output. There are only two controls in mda talkbox which are quite obvious.Note that both carrier and modulator signals are taken from one input channel, which therefore must be stereo for normal operation.
