Which idiot would spend $2000 on software effects? I can understand $2000 worth of hardware but not software.

And even then, software effects are much more convenient. Hardware for things like my TS-9 etc. but software otherwise. And definetely not $2000 worth.

i definitely wanna look at autotune 4. we are going to be demo cutting a lot of singers and vocal work so that plays a big part in our overall selection.

Dude, you HAVE to check out GSnap, by GVST - it's free, and is bloody brilliant! Spend your autotune money on something else!

Actually $2000 in software will do alot more for you then $2000 in hardware. i would'nt consider hardware effects if all i had where $2000, $5000 yes, but if a person wants a more complete, powerful, and flexible studio then software is definitely the route to go assuming they already have good monitors and sound card, mic etc.. $2000 in hardware is only one good reverb, at best one good reverb one good compressor. I 'would' and 'have' gone software route and am VERY pleased (and in my opinion my stuff sounds better then cheap hardware), i have all the bases covered well.Most computer musicians i'm sure may not spend $2000 at once (unless they buy waves platnum,or duende, plpareq,algorithmix type stuff etc etc) But over the course of many years $2000 is easily spent on software especially if you buy expensive name brands.Your opinions are based on your hardware bias, but for those of us who are COMPLETELY satisfied with our software studio this is reasonable money if you love software tools. its insane to try for a quality hardware studio with only $2000 in my eyes when i can get a DIVERSE arsenal of VERY powerful software for that money.$5000 i'd consider some hardware but $2000 its software world and i love every bit of it.

If i were you, i'd get Waves reverb, blockfish, and Waves compressors, and then everything else, spend whatever you want to.

Get a UAD-1 and a TC Electronic Powercore, and the plugins you feel you need most. This way you get top notch plugins and very little CPU drain. Both of those cards should give you a wide selection of compressors, reverbs, EQ's, etc. that would probably satiate almost all your needs.

I don't really have a hardware bias. The only hardware thing I use is my TS-9, and I would use my 411fx for its Flanger if it wasn't broken. And apart from a chorus and a compressor thats all the hardware i have.

I think I didn't really say what I wanted very clearly, sorry about that. What I meant to say is that theres no reason one should have to spend $2000 on software effects. If I had that sort of money to spend, and wanted $2000 worth of effects, then it would only be if its some sort of hardware effect I really like thats not emulated in software. But I can't really think of anything except the 411fx (even my TS-9 has software equivalent), and truth be told a flanger sound isn't worth $2000.

If there were no free effects and no effects included with my host, I'd probably have
- Kjaerhus GAC-1 ($198 - includes EQ, compressor, gate)
- Kjaerhus GMO-1 ($58 - Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, FSU)
- CamelPhat ($85, Distortion, compressor, FSU)
- CamelSpace ($85, Reverb, Delay, FSU)
That gives me a total of $426, short of even a quarter of the price. But in reality, I don't own any of those, as my host has everything I need and the few things it doesn't have or doesn't do well have free VST versions (Kjaerhus Classic, blockfish).

BTW, there are some very good hardware multi-effect units in that price range, MIDI controllable and with pretty much anything you can imagine. Sure its not gonna be your uber-geek-lexicon-verb for a million dollars but there are good units in that price range that perform remarkably well. My father used to have one but the name escapes me.

hmm....i believe the topic title goes: "2000 US dollars(max), meaning up to or equal to...I started this thread with the knowledge that some will reply with setups under 2000 and some right there or slightly over....i wanna consider different scenarios from both sides of the spectrum.





.....some other things i started conidering was waves diamond bundle. from what i know you dont need those with dongle right, and they cover most of the bases? Blockfish stuff looks kinda cool as does Admiral quality's scamp (oh btw--a shameless plug is not unwlecome in here....i always say, i get more tantalized from the cook's description than the waiter's )

Heh, good to hear. And there's a, fully functioning, no-dongle, week-long free evaluation too, so I don't really need any "salesman jargon". Try it for yourself and if it's your kinda thing make sure you get it before Sept 1 cuz the price is going up.
