Hey Juan...

Squids said that the loops I used were from a session that would be in the Country Folk Rex pak....I can't wait!

Haha "your brother"... ;)

Dude, those sound great! Well done. It is nice to see the loops put to good work, especially creatively like that! When people realize, as you have, that not only is it 5,000 loops in Rex, Apple Loops and Wave but when you load the 5,000 Rex files into something like Kontakt or Stylus it is also a library of ohhh..... 50,000 one shot slices?????? ... that you can manipulate the pitch of and a number of other things you can do. I do it all the time and it is REALLY fun for the exact reasons you mentioned.

We're going to have something on esoundz guys where you will be able to post your own demos as well as your patch sharing... and all kinds of stuff. I will tell you more soon but you can imagine it is only going to get cooler and cooler on www.esoundz.com (ie. we don't sleep).

But, this other thing we have coming... it's the end all... Several hundred thousand slices you could mess with in that one. Woops. Shhhhhh. ;) (cats out of bags tomorrow)

Post

Thanks man...I appreciate it...I REALLY do love and USE the stuff I get from you guys.

My Bro... I had to let that one outta the bag myself in the interest of disclosure since I was trying to promote his new CD, Fossil Poets....now was that shameless?

However, I don't see you letting any REAL cats outta the bag...give us the goods dude ;-)

BTW, that 's a true story about Acid 2.0 (or whatever it was called then), I recently installed the loops from it...hehee. AND, he actually used Acid Pro while creating the music on the new cd!

Yeah and so far, I've only used like 12 or 13 loops from RAW...it's gonna last a while...hehee

Well, since we are sharing some RAW loop compositions I might as well jump in. :)

I love RAW. It is great as a sketch pad for song writing. Sometimes the loops stay in the finished product..sometimes not...but you can put together something really quickly with RAW.

Here's a little taste of something I am working on. You'll have to imagine the singing cause it's not there yet. (Think Jack Johson meets Sister Hazel - I wish :D )

http://www.dgkenneymusic.com/mp3share/R ... ndered.mp3

Anyway, took about 45 minutes to put together as I thought it out.

Hmm I need to have a look into RAW again. I do have some experience with loop based comping. I was using pHATMatikPro and was able to get some mileage out the large loop that comes with my Carillon. RAW is interesting but I am looking forward to is Discrete Drums for BFD and was saving my money to get that instead. Any word on that Squids?

Very, very nice Dan....yup...you're spot on about RAW...just tons of inspiration in there for just about any genre...

I haven't put the vocals to mine yet either ;-)

Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoyed yours also.

RAW is a gas! I am curious how you use it in Kontakt. Not familiar with the program. Can you then play it like a sample or is it more like the slices you can use in Stylus? (BTW some of the electric guitar parts are incredible using Stylus "chaos" to randomize and reverse some of the slices)

In addition to the Stylus use, I am using the WAV files in Live. The clip envelopes in Live allow you to transpose "notes" within the WAVs which is cool. When I get some time I also want to try some of them in Melodyne.

Let me know when you get the vocals done. I am looking forward to hearing it.

Yeah, Beergeek's brother is only ROGER POWELL! Yay we can finally say. ;) I remember listening to those old Rundgren Utopia records with those crazy sounds he used to get on PPGs and such. Nice guy too. I met him because he was using some SR/IK products actually (oh but who knows maybe you turned him onto that).
Anyway, since your cat is out of the bag I will let mine out just a little early. What we're talking about is not only 15 Rex Paks but also 15 Apple Loop Paks (oh Roger will be happy there... does he still work for Apple?) and 15 Acidized Wave Paks. All the same titles, just different formats. But, what if you like to use different formats and want it all? Simple: R.A.W. Gold Edition with ALL of it. 12 DVDs, 38 gigabytes, 43,000 loops (between the three formats, so about 14,000 in each) and maybe a quarter of a million slices to mess with if you have a sampler that reads Rex such as Kontakt, Stylus, Reason, HALion, EXS etc. Anyway, the cost of all of those products (15 Rex, Apple Loops and Wave Paks + RAW) would normally be over $1,600. and RAW Gold Edition will have all of that but sell for less than half that price. The upgrade from RAW will be a few hundred less.

Probably one of the coolest things is that it marks the first time we're announcing a product the day it is SHIPPING! (let alone over 40!). It took a lot of work to do that. It's a separate team than the one I am heading up for Studiophonik and Infinite Drums (which btw Gordon is what it is called... Discrete Drums is someone else, hehe). Studiophonik just got one of the coolest upgrades in features you could imagine but that means it will take just a little longer... however you will agree it is worth it I am sure. Infinite Drums however will come out sooner and there are some changes in that line up from what we've announced but I think you'll like it... ie. a little more affordable for everyone.

Dan your track sounded great too. We should make a thread for getting your RAW out! Haha. Seriously though, it would be cool to have a RAW thread about people using it. I will be doing videos soon so people can see just how powerful it REALLY is.

Thanks Dave Infinitely! StudioPhonik is gonna be the bomb! 8) 8) I can't wait.

Roger Powell! This is a name I know. Whoa beergeek!

Cheers,
Gordon

Hey Gordon...I'd love to take some kind of credit for being his brother but I actually didn't have any say in the matter

Hey Squids...yeah, I didn't see any way around it since I was going to shamelessly promote the Fossil Poets cd.

Sounds like you guys have been busy ;-) Yes, Roger's been working for Apple for quite some time now. Funny story, neither of us has any real formal education as programmers but that's what we both do for a living...and it was a second careeer for both of us.

Musically, as you can tell, we're very different but we have a boatload of fun playing music together when we visit each other.

That's way cool! I'm yet to find some usable acoustic guitar loops out there… I'll keep an eye on that Rex Pack.

By the way, great songs posted on this threat! If you don't mind, and while, we wait for Dave's videos, would you please explain a little bit how you guys used the loops? It obviously works…

Thanks Dan...it's the lyrics I'm having trouble with which is funny because when I was younger, I wrote lyrics daily and then wrote the songs around the lyrics. I guess since I've gotten older I've lost a lot of my angst and wonder at goings on in the world ;-)

I don't have Stylus but I would assume the rex loops work pretty much the same way in Stylus as they do in Kontakt.

Basically, I load up a rex file as a patch, turn on tracking (maps it up and down the keyboard so it transposes the loop as you're playing) and then go to the loop editor which allows you to select the slices that will play. Kontakt will also alow you to re-slice for use in Kontakt.

It also has a scripting language that lets you do some crazy stuff like auto chords, harmonizing, arpeggios ....I think it's one of the best samplers out there. Not to detract anything from ST2 but Kontakt is a different animal.

Kontakt comes with some VSL stuff and about 15 gigs of samples but I find myself going to Miro for orchestral stuff and ST2 a lot because of the pre-sets. ST2 has more pre-sets, they're more diverse and more of the kind of pre-set that I'm looking for...don't have to do a lot of tweaking.

Your mileage may vary ;-)

I don't have the full RAW yet, only the REX edition but that Live clip envelope thing sounds pretty cool...I'll have to try that too as well as Melodyne.

The thing about using the REX files in Kontakt is that I can select the slices and have them transposed in the host tempo as I'm playing them.

It's pretty cool...one of my problems is that I want to try so much stuff...but at some point, you have to just stop, learn to use what you have and make some music

Sure, I'd be happy to if I could remember  I did it differently on each of those tunes.

I'll see if I can do something brief later today....
