I've had a NTrack licence since v3. I do have v4, and I haven't had a real problem with craching, but I haven't used it alot this year. I'll probably try v5 just to see what he's come up with.

Unfortunately, there has been alot of reports that v4 is somewhat unstable. Alot may be related to the VSTs one has. With so many VSTs out there ranging from awful to amazing, it's a wonder that host apps stay up at all, sometimes.

It's my experience that the NTrack forum works well (no posting problems), and that Flavio (the developer) has usually been helpful and responsive to problems.

I now have a Reaper licence too, because I like its audio editing alot, and the fact that so far it's a brick for me - no crashes. And that it's tiny (small executable file).

It is interesting that Reaper seems to appeal not only to users of expensive, powerful programs like Vegas, Samplitude, and Pro Tools, but also to budget-minded former n-track users. That is a pretty broad market.

Another "former" n-Track user who has migrated to Reaper. Faster, more stable, and has the qualities that drew me into N in the first place. I still follow n's development, and it has a lot of things I really like (I love the FAsoft plugs), but I'm just not using it much these days because Reaper is just much easier. Here's hoping v5 is ready to go and a lot more stable once it offcially launches.

Reaper is a nice fast editor, and it's also small and stable and relatively cheap. It's also big fun to be involved at its infancy, and to possibly influence its developer.

I don't think Reaper is a genuine challenge to the higher-end system used by pro's (Protools, Cubase, Logic) because those systems have a long track record, a network of dealers providing support, are recognised studio standards, and integrate with other parts of the production universe like video editors. But Reaper is young, development is FAST, and they just added broadcast WAV support, so keep watchin'...
