ok, so now any recommendations to (cheaply if not freely) do the oppositte? (shift the pitch of a sample to match a song without altering it's time or tempo?)

Download the program I mentioned earlier. ;)

The second of the two screenshots is batch transposer which is a pitch shifter (both the programs for time stretching and pitch shifting are included in one zip). I would think you could also do this natively in FL Studio as well but like I said before I'm not a user so I can't be sure.

I just installed the Fruity demo and all you do is use the pitch knob next to the time stretching controls you found earlier! :)

wow. three things are amazing here.
1) how perfectly time stretching AND pitch shifting work in FL Studio.
2) the help i got from both of you on this.
3) how stupid i am for not being able to figure that out on my own.

thanks for figuring that our for me!

And one more...

4) How much I now really want to buy FL Studio. :D

I've tried FL so many times over the last few years and it's never been quite "there" for me but playing with the demo today has really changed my mind. Damn I wish I wasn't so skint... :(

yeah, you really should. i've been able to do all my music on it. (all kinds of styles) it really has grown to be one of the best out there.

I bought it last week, and this week I got DirectWave. So far all I can say is
