I like to take the Fruity Parametric Eq and asign multiple band's levels, frequencies, or bandwidths to a single knob on the dashboard, using different mapping formulas to create complex and alien filter types.
I wish image line would boast more about their controllers as IMO that's what really gives FL Studio it's strength.

i've used it for building multi-timbral performances on my xp60. i've used it to automate each tone of a patch in a performance(4 tones per patch, 16 patches per performance = 64 rats nests of midi complexity) of my xp60 over time in a way that is the most intuitive (fl automation is hot) as each of the 16 dashboards mapped to different midi channels gave me almost full control over the xp60 via the computer without headaches.ouroboros wrote:I'd like to lean - currently fiddling: it creates an almost modular environment if one wishes.
it's pretty nice. i cant do any deep editing because it doesn't support (and was told it may never) sysex, but quite a lot can be exposed via standard cc messages, and if one really was so inclined teaming dashboard up with a midi translation layer like midiox and midiyoke (to map cc->sysx) means it could do anything that sounddiver or midiquest could do in realtime if you put the work in (well up to about 100 different deep parameters i'd guess as there are reserved ones for stuff like vol, breath, etc.) ...
the best part of it i found was that the automation storage was very flexible and easy to grasp. i could automate stuff on it's own playlist track over time and only have to look for all 16 channels of automation in one spot, which is much easier than a channel->track-based system imo. the way that it works if automation already exists for something you can simply re-record over it or overwrite it or just use the browser to go as atomic as you like.
dashboard is 100x easier to setup than the cubase shit is (i literally had to spend a day (and i'm somewhat of a programmer with knowledge of stuff already) and go to like 10 or 12 different websites (not steinbergs mind you) to figure out how to do 'dashboard' stuff in cubase... cubases implementations advantages over dashboard are that it supports sysx and the patch list setup is slightly easier. flstudio requires you to use cakewalk .ins instrument definitions (which can be simply entered via text editor so it's not that big of a deal -- the hardest part is finding docs on the .INS format (i just used the .ins i built inside of cakewalk when i used it and that worked fine) but you could easily load one up that was similar in layout and deduce what goes where.
in all, the graphics and skin support in dashboard is > *. cubase supports limited skin, studioware (no longer a part of cakewalk host sadly) had about the same level of skin support as cubase -- you could modify colors of things and use bitmap backgrounds for groups and the main panel but i dont recall being able to create custom control graphics -- which flstudio does allow and is so easy to do).
dashboard owns period
you know also that you dont have to use dashboard only with external gear as i mentioned above, you can use it to control any flstudio stuff you map out with internal controller setups. so you could build a one-screen interface to flstudio (almost as some of the stuff like i think transport and toolbar buttons aren't available as options or weren't last i tried)
hope this helps.

the docs for it are right in the helpfile. read up on it. if you need anything explained perhaps i could help you out - i've built a few. reflex is the man behind it and he's very open minded and helpful as well so if you asked for help on looptalk i'm sure he'd be willing to help you out.ouroboros wrote:I'd like to lean - currently fiddling: it creates an almost modular environment if one wishes.
if you speak to him beg for sysx!
