LOL, hey Hink!

I know, but version 2.0 was released in July 2006. These guys have a proven track record of releasing a new version _maybe_ once a year. I am just surprised they released the new one so soon :)

Btw, I won't be paying 200$ for the plugin, just to have the _exact_ same sounds as my regular XTLive. For 50$ I wouldn't have hesitated, but 200$ is a bit too much for re-amping.

you can re-amp with the xt live now....

Maybe I'm being unfair, but at the moment I'd be tempted to tell people to just get Izotope Trash - it really is that good!

tbh, for $200 it's a good deal. but if you only own a guitarport without any model packs, you'd have to pay to get those (another $100 on top of the $100 for the guitarport, plus $200 for this) and i think if i didn't already have money invested in the guitarport i wouldn't have bought the vst version. the way i see it: i am leveraging the investment made in the guitarport and the various model packs (own them all except bass).

this uses all my previously purchased modelpacks, which does give me tons of different high quality cabs and amps, stomps, mods, and reverbs. all the time-based effects are syncable to host tempo, which is cool. it sounds great, but why i need a guitarport for this i dont understand. the CPU use is slightly better than guitar rig 2 when i have everything turned on, but not by very much. i would have hoped the guitarport to take some of the DSP load but i guess that isn't the case. looks like freeze is my friend until i can afford to upgrade my cpu/mobo/ram.

even still, for the amount of versatility, quality, and so-far-so-good-stability, $200 is a fair price. once i understand how to work with presets, and where my modelpack presets ran off to (they just dont show up in the plugin version but still do in gearbox stand-alone) i'll be a happy customer.

i'd have to say by comparison, stuff like guitar rig 2 probably wont be getting used in favor of this (though i may find some use for amplitube se still as i like it's sound and performance).

kind of a bummer that the plugin doesn't include a tuner (dunno wtf the logic was removing that part, since the competing plug-ins do have such a feature).

i left the main reason for buying to the end which is simply; it's line6, and they have a tremendously good track record for taking care of me with my guitarport through the years free of charge -- upgrades to the software, drivers, expanding selection of stuff that really made me happy, the $200 seems a fairer price considering these things. further, i am confident that the gearbox ownership experience will be a good one and follow line6 tradition of quality and integrity, something i wouldn't be so confident about recieving from NI or IK or Waves.

so :tu:, so far so good, and i look forward to exploiting the depth of the plug soon -- i haven't even used all the modelpack stuff yet (there are too many components and too many combinations thereof) but with the VST version think the odds are good i'll be using this on drums, vocals, bass, anything and everything. i'm not throwing away my copies of torben, graham, or kaspers plug-ins that's for sure and i'll be using them still as even though all the 'staple' effects are available in gearbox vst, they seem to be specifically coded for a guitar signal -- and thus aren't as useful or viable for non-guitar work.

what kind of experiences has everyone else had? it was a seamless install for me. update monkey on it's own, select the gearbox plugin item in monkey, click purchase add-on, buy it, use code in reciept to unlock it, download gearbox v3.0, install, open monkey, activate, enter code, guitarport firmware updated, done.

i pray i dont have to do this each time i install fresh. though windows xp is very good and i know my way around how to maintain it, i've got so much legacy kruft from my vst experimentation/research that a clean reinstall is coming soon to optimize things to the nth degree for audio.

As much as I agree that Trash is excellent, I dont think it compares to gearbox that well.

My presets were moved to a Presets_oct1006 folder or summat. dont have it here in front of me. you can go into winder explorer and straighten those out. All of my model packs showed up first try, do you have a 2nd line 6 product? I agree about the tuner, I rather like the line 6 tuner and dont want to have to start up the gearbox standalone just to use it.

While I generally liked the mic pres of the toneport, I really think things sound better through my Edirol UA-1000s mic pres and the gearbox plugin.I also like that I can record dry signal now and apply efx later, I didnt realize how much I missed that.

Post

Can you monitor wet and record dry with this? Guitarport never allowed for this, and this would come in extremely handy for me.

Yes. With the near-zero-latency "ToneDirect" function, even.

I cannot figure out why a PodXT owner would fork out $199 for this.
People keep mentioning reamping, but that's always been built-in to the USB driver.

About the only benefit I can come up with is saving patches within your DAW instead of on the Pod itself.
But a huge trade off is needing to use your CPU instead of the Pod's chip, and needing to use the Pod's USB interface to get your guitar inot your PC-both pretty big negatives IMO.

Aural Chaos - You can use Gearbox to store patches instead of on the POD XT itself for free. I've got a good 200 patches on Gearbox, and was sorting through them last night, only picking the best ones to store on the POD XT itself.

If they made it $99 for POD XT users, it might pick up some converts, especially if they added some more amp models for us. ;)

Do you need line 6 hardware for this (like a pod?), or does this is a PodXT in software (vst)?

You need the hardware, even if you're not using it as an interface...

Anyone able to tell me if the UX preamp models are available to the plugin? Also, there's nothing silly like limitations on the number of instances you can use at once, is there?

Please explain? Or does this only work for the PodXT and not for the UX2?
