Yesterday, I wanted download a free plug from a website, but the dev. wanted my mail adress to send me a link to the vst file.
First of able, I'd been irritated, then I've thought that this guy was right, 'coz, often, the dev. haven't feedbacks, no thank's.
IMO, ask a mail adress is a good way.

Currently I'm one of those developers
NuBi LE / Spinner LE were free downloads and now they're a free email attachment.

Heck, I'll even send it to hotmail and gmail accounts.

My latest marketing attempt involves NXTPhase and that experiment has not formally begun. But I hope to have happier news soon

I can totally understand it, that you want some feedback, so I think it is OK to use email instead of a direct link.
As a matter fact I just downloaded something from Daniel yesterday, and decided to give some feedback.

A few kind but truthful words in exchange for a free VST, how hard can that be?

I'll give my email address for a good plug-in, no problem. I serve hundreds of downloads a day and rarely get any feedback and I sometimes wonder if people like or even use the stuff they get, so I too understand your point.
But I must admit I too download VST/samples/songs and then forget to comment on them later, so I can't complain really.
