on another note, does anyone know if there is a standard difference between the audio in containers and codecs like AVI, MPG, MPEG2,3,4 etc...

Okay, Ableton Live is on V6, and was released 10 months after Reason.
But then, perhaps he'll take issue with their IDE, "Props, Steinberg and everyone else codes only from command line, using an IDE like Ableton is easy and too fast, yada yada yada."

Presumably then you will disapprove of the formal partnership between Ableton and Propellerhead that is being strongly rumoured in the industry...?John Vulich wrote:Pretty funny for a guy talking about 2 programs that are both essentially just toys anyway.
Any host can do thatAt least FL Studio, can record audio, send midi to hardware synths, and host VST/VSTis!
Virtual instruments designed around a hardware paradigm (e.g. Minimonster, Reason, Pro53, etc) tend not to do those things. It's not what they do.

Vaz Modular does, and there's nothing stopping other such things from doing the same other than designer choices. But then Vaz too is only on v3, and of course not available on the Mac.headquest wrote:Virtual instruments designed around a hardware paradigm tend not to do those things. It's not what they do.

Just out of interest, exactly what difference DOES it make that FL is coded in Delphi (not heard about this before...) - a non-techie answer would be interesting...?

Reason can't... (sorry couldn't resist)headquest wrote:Any host can do thatAt least FL Studio, can record audio, send midi to hardware synths, and host VST/VSTis!I don't see your point...?

Yes, but the point that seems to elude a lot of people is that Reason is not a host. It is a modular instrument.ludwig wrote:Reason can't... C++ aliases less and sounds more pro.headquest wrote:Just out of interest, exactly what difference DOES it make that FL is coded in Delphi (not heard about this before...) - a non-techie answer would be interesting...?
translation : bugger all difference.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Nothing really. Delphi compiles to executable speeds comparable to C/C++ and can use inline ASM (assembler code) just like C or C++. In fact, depending on the compiler, Delphi compile times (how fast the compiler actually turns the written code into native code) can often be faster as well.headquest wrote:Just out of interest, exactly what difference DOES it make that FL is coded in Delphi (not heard about this before...) - a non-techie answer would be interesting...?
C is more widespread, probably due to it's predominant teaching in Universities (some switched their courses to Java, but many went back to C/C++ again) and its substantial use in industries such as Electrical Engineering, etc.
