ok, so we have 5 fishes and 2 yes - so people are up for it, we may have enough to actually do it.

now ideas, if nobody can see any major problems, what synth should we use? who wants to do a collection of patches? when should this take place?

i'm sure if we get one compo done, it'll increase interest in the idea as people can see how things work and what results are produced. i'm even willing to try this and produce something terrible / get laughed at just to get it started :)

of course nobody gets laughed at, unless you do bigbig.xm - vst version.

(winamp will play this file for the curious. this is a lasting in-joke at modarchive)

i propose.. well i'd say xhip of course, so lets not use it. somebody else suggest the synth. first post gets it! (remember it must be free, small and moderately low cpu if possible and possible for all participants to use without hassles)

the patch thing wont be a problem, we'll all contribute.. three patches. one percussive, one melodic and one of anything you like.

use http://xhip.cjb.net/upload for files, i assume this is going to be small so it isnt a big deal. next time i'll create a special directory for this and register a new cjb/etc address using a new virtual server, make some pages for stats and so on.

saturday/sunday today. if possible we should do this today/tommorow. it is currently 0000 gmt, we'll all have to agree on a time. when you mention your prefered time, use gmt!

anything else i'm forgetting?

It's a good idea, aciddose. I reckon it could catch on, but that first post is maybe a bit daunting in its detail. You probably just need to get things up and running as simply as possible - 'here's your limitation: see you in x hours' - then fine tune as you go.

Maybe extend the 1 hour to 24 hours to allow for people on the other side of the planet, or would that defeat the whole purpose?

Post

that would partially defeat the purpose, but 24 hours would be workable. we could all try to limit ourselves to just a one hour period in that 24 hour window. what i could do is, host the pack of programs/patches to use, and host an upload area. i could check the server logs to make sure everyone who downloaded the pack also uploaded an mp3 and mid file within an hour.

otherwise, we could just go for a plain 24 hour period. that reduces somewhat the time limitation stress which may reduce the overall inspiration.

That's a clever solution, but sounds like extra work for you.

You're probably right, don't want to kill the spontaneity/limitation of the one hour idea, the buzz of everyone working simultaneously. Probably best to aim for peak US/Canada time, and don't worry about us foreigners for the time being. Maybe later on once the kinks are ironed out.
