I'm probably getting one cheap off a mate in a week or two (full keyboard version). I know what it can do as a synth/sampler but what's it like as a midi/VSTi controller? - can you use the XY to control softsynths and what's the key action and aftertouch like?

Post

I don't really use it as a control surface but the XY pad (as well as the D-Beam) can be assigned to CCs. The key action is nothing to write home but it's nice to finally have a synth with aftertouch. The aftertouch isn't the most responive I've ever felt but at the same time I'm not complaining.

I'm just wondering as I don't really have room for 2 large keyboards so I will probably have to sell my Korg N364 which although its nowhere near as powerful a synth does have a great keyboard that I'm very used to using. Still - might get a couple of hundred quid back for it :)

my vsynth (fw version 2) is for sale
(...perfect condition, studio use only)

pm me if interested.

Now I'm getting excited - almost a done deal now - just going to borrow it a few days to test it out first.

the v-synth gt is the keyboard (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VSynthGT/). i'd get this one as it has the touch controller as well as the touch screen.

BUT: $2,895.97 is a real hardcore laptop to run the software i have OR a fireface 800 (and change) to get in and out of the laptop i already have OR every soft-synth i don't have and always wanted (plus change).

on the other hand, i once played a v-synth at a music store...what i discovered is: you can do a whole performance on it on the fly! just get a sequence going and then warp the hell out of the sounds. there were a lot of people listening to what i was doing (even if they didn't like the type of music--dark ambient--i was doing). they were completely taken aback at what this thing could do.

with the current versions, i have the feeling that you could put a whole mix (from a laptop?) through them and, again, warp the hell out of it or sample it and then mash it up with the original.

if i had $9K, i'd get the gt and xt (to use as an effects box) and a mv-8800 to run through the xt...now, that would be a hell of a performance rig!

a poor man's oasys = v-synth gt + mv-8800 :P
overthrow KRAPITALISM ! you have nothing to lose but your claims.
