I'm partially done with my remix. Damn, remixes spork my processor even worse than what I normaly do to my poor, beleagured VSTs!

I learned a lot from my last (which was my first) remix, so hopefully this one turns out better. I owe it to you for your mindblowing remix of mine!

Yeah! Great track man. Lots of "wow" moments. I downloaded the remix files, just hope I can come up with something that does it justice.

You guys are so modest, I know that I'll be blown away by the results of your remixery. Thanks for the comments guys, especially to core, being compared to squarepusher is like a twinky being compared to a wedding cake.

Damn, I was really hoping to finish my remix and post it before I have to go to work but it looks like 34 hours isn't enough time for my processor to spit out what I like to do

Wow dude, that was quick! 34 hours is not a lot of time considering the attention you pay to detail. But when I think about it it didn't take much longer than that (when you add all of the work hours) and a lot of that was time it took to mix down individual tracks. The fact that Pro Tools can only render in real time is a bitch and a half.

On a side note, I played my first live show tonight at a club in LA called "The Cocaine". I didn't have the fore thought to record but I can say that the mix I did of this song went over really well. It was a pretty amazing night and I recieved an extremely warm response.

That's awesome news, justin! Congrats!

As to detail, I can't decide if it'd be more time consuming to have the most powerful processor available (whatever that is, I've no idea) as I'd actually get to edit things to the degree of detail I wish to do, but then I'd not just split the difference like I do now and do things that are actually possible. I just submixed everything but the main breaks and some other stuff to make it actually manageable, which is never a good idea for the final mix but I have no choice. If I had Samplitude, for example, instead of FL and a super powerful CPU it'd be aesthetically different, I can tell you that.

f**k, I wish I could just pop open a window and ask you all about your show last night! I know it's a pain to type such a thing and it doesn't come across right anyways. Wtf kinda club plays... um, is your music breakbeat? I saw Squarepusher in a rock club once....

I can tell you that even if you had all the processing power in the world you would still be pushing it to the limits. The only way to get the a computer to make the sounds that you and I do is to twist it's arm behind it's back and force it at gun point hoping that the mixdown process will complete before it passes out. If I run out of processing power on my Mac during production I will use my PC as a sampler (with Live) and host all of my VSTs and AUs on the Mac. Still, with the load split between two computers I can bring them to their knees with a few FFT based effects running 2048 bands of resolution.

Interestingly enough, I played at a jazz club that has a indie rock night but the club promoters had a mind to freak their patrons out a little bit. While I was playing I was lost in my own little world but when I came to, I recieved a much warmer response that I expected (especially due to the fact that I was spitting out sound at least 18dB higher than the loudest act before me). My live set is much more noise and destruction than the polished stones I produce at home. I leave tons of headroom on the output bus so that when I do sound check I have only given them a taste of how loud it will get once high distortion and feedback loops are introduces. So suffice to say my set was loud as hell! I will make sure to record the next show to give you a better idea.

I don't think there was a concept to begin with, LOL. I like what you did with it, snappy, tight and still a little off kilter. You gave it much more of a groove which I can appreciate. I really liked the melody you added, gave a kind of melancholy sunshine that I have difficulty describing Do I have permission to host it from my site, so I can create a direct link to it?
