RIGHT!?!?!

you know I have gone from being 100% anti apple a few years ago to "applecurious" now(except I fecking hate the Im a mac Ima PC ads..) and the main problem I have with Apple at this point in time is the way they will just dump a platform for something completely incompatible with seemingly no regard for developers who are not employed by Apple themselves. While I have always suspected it, Gmedia recently confirmed that their new products are delayed because they spent so much time porting things to UB. You gotta wonder what would be available if Apple could just stick to their guns on one platform...

HI!

Nessie here to tell you about the great news about logic 8!

We will be announcing our new DAW (which we don't know what to actually call it yet) either at musikmesse (st petersberg) or summer namm (austin) or at the macworld expo, or at winter namm (2008) or at musikmesse (frankfurt 2008) or maybe not till winter namm 2009.

Be assured that apple is commited to serving our loyal logic users during this process*

*(process is only applicable to the "current or newest" version. All new versions of NAME TO BE ANNOUNCED apple daw are subject to further delays and run-around due to what will surely be the next ipod....the "iphone". All tech service and customer support will be redirected to "iphone". Waiting for any support/updates of NAME TO BE ANNOUNCED daw can cause whining, hair loss, and general fidgity behavior)

Why bother writing shit like this? What's the point in intentionally starting OS flame wars?

I'm not starting any OS wars. My music machine is a Mac as well.
I'm just embarrassed how they even dare to market a stupid thing such as that at something which is supposed a freaking developers meeting. You'd expect something more from such an event, wouldn't you?

And fwiw, I hate stupid Windows and the socalled improvements coming with Vista just as much.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Given that Garageband pretty much is a stripped down Logic Pro both wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm sure it would scare the living daylights out of Cakewalk & Steinberg though.
I doubt it would scare Steinberg as Cubase is just as good as Logic, but it would definitely send some tremors to Cakewalk.

After Logic went to Mac, they were probably the company that benefited most from that departure, and I've always regarded Sonar as inferior Logic wannabe. (In other words if Logic was an aging old Rolls Royce, Sonar would be a Lincoln Towncar, and Cubase would be a Bentley)

I'd like to see Spectrum announcing Atmosphere UB release dates [or even Atmo 2????]...

I'm not too bothered, though - they work at their own pace to get things right, and they'll be getting my money anyhow...

How's it all coming along, Spectrum???

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much at all, and I'm actually happy with what was announced. Sure, it was a bit underwhelming overall, but people seem to expect apple to blow their minds every single time there's a keynote, and then whine about how they didn't deliver on things that were never promised in the first place. You'd think that people would learn to manage their expectations, yet it happens over and over and over again.

I predict that Reason 4 STILL won't be released.

It's not so much dashed expectations as the iPhone crap Apple spouted yesterday was just plain insulting to developers. Web apps! Sweet, how innovative!

Hey, I predicted that one here months ago. I too am still thinking it'll happen.

At least Propellerheads actually showed us a preview of Reason 4 a few months back. Apple have been unreasonably silent about Logic 8, leading many people to think they may have abandoned Logic in favor of Soundtrack Pro and Garageband.

Considering the last we heard was that there would be no 3rd party apps at all, I don't see how this was anything but good news. It's certainly not what people were hoping for, but I feel that there may be more potential there than people realise. My understanding is that the apps will be more like widgets than web apps; stored on the phone, and with access to certain internals, written in javascript and html.

They showed a preview of a synth, not Reason 4.

It could just be Reason 3.5.
