Nah it was some guy on the internet responding to a q i asked a about the quality of the synth.Perhaps he is in the wrong business
karpoff - Don't spend your money yet!I bought the EMX originally and people advised me to get the RS but i didn't have the budget. At this stage i advise the same thing, get an RS7000.I only had it since yesterday but i already new a lot about it apart from what the synth was like.It doesn't let the unit down at all,it only adds to an already very powerful piece of hardware
Like the saying goes you get out what you in.I think the RS will be central to whatever setup i use so it may be a good place to start with one of those and take it from there

when i got my RS it was hard to navigate around at first. it took me about a month to start getting the hang of things. but once you get used to it, it's very intuitive. now i basically operate it without thinking about what button i have to press, etc...musikmachine wrote:Nah it was some guy on the internet responding to a q i asked a about the quality of the synth.Perhaps he is in the wrong business![]()

How do you rate the synth overall? From what i've read it's good but the patches are not very good and thats why people don't rate it..I'm wondering whether it's worth getting a full size keyboard so i can play it properly.Keys on the RS are a lot better than i thought they would be though.Btw can you layer voices or do you have to layer tracks and resample?dirty oscillators wrote:when i got my RS it was hard to navigate around at first. it took me about a month to start getting the hang of things. but once you get used to it, it's very intuitive. now i basically operate it without thinking about what button i have to press, etc...musikmachine wrote:Nah it was some guy on the internet responding to a q i asked a about the quality of the synth.Perhaps he is in the wrong business![]()

the synth engine? it's just like a standard rompler playback thing. i mean there are some good basic sounds, nice synth things like FM style waves and a DX100 bass, but they aren't stellar. the synth editing functions are really basic but there is enough there to tailor a sound and the filters are pretty nice. the EG knobs are kinda tough to dial in specific settings - for instance 0 is at the 12 o'clock postion because there are - and + settings and out of say 127 steps 1-10 does the most variation. not sure if i can explain that well over email. there are some sounds like in the FX banks that work with the filter quite nicely.musikmachine wrote:How do you rate the synth overall? From what i've read it's good but the patches are not very good and thats why people don't rate it..I'm wondering whether it's worth getting a full size keyboard so i can play it properly.Keys on the RS are a lot better than i thought they would be though.Btw can you layer voices or do you have to layer tracks and resample?dirty oscillators wrote:when i got my RS it was hard to navigate around at first. it took me about a month to start getting the hang of things. but once you get used to it, it's very intuitive. now i basically operate it without thinking about what button i have to press, etc...musikmachine wrote:Nah it was some guy on the internet responding to a q i asked a about the quality of the synth.Perhaps he is in the wrong business![]()
i don't know if the RS needs a full size keyboard to play it properly but a full size keyboard is always nice to play whatever - be it the RS, your korg electribe, VSTi's off your PC, etc. but yeah, when i'm programming tracks i use the RS's keys a lot just out of laziness. i have synths with full size keys and those are definitely nicer to use.
you can't layer voices per track. that's one drawback. a big drawback.. essentially you get one DCO per track. so like you said, you have to copy a pattern to two tracks and layer it that way. the resampling feature is great though. i dunno, the best thing about the RS is the sequencer and the sampler. the synth part (pcm playback or rompler part) is nice to kick around with, but certainly not the best part of the RS by itself.

Apparently Aphex Twin.Matt Dopamine produced(i think)two award tracks on the RS.Google him and you'll be able to heck.He got signed on the back of the first one.I contacted him a few months back and he said he's not sure he would have got to where he is if it wasn't for the RS7000karp0ff/kaspar0ff wrote:ok, rs7000 would the heart of live performance engine. thanx for yopur replies. but what else should I buy - mixer, midi keyboard. do I need external fx processors such as korg kaoss?? is it possible to use rs7000 as a phrase sampler on stage?? any names of famous sound producers, who use it?? and what can anyone say about roland mv8000 - it is not so old as rs7000, is it a studio or both studio and live unit??

I think you could use that as a phrase sampler..

i think Korg should have just made a kaoss pad that was more of a midi controller (w/out the effects).
