Nice cans IMO, but try to keep the packaging in good shape so if your ears don't agree with mine (which is entirely possible) you can take 'em back and get ones better suited to you.

Thought about doing any work on the room itself? I just installed a few Auralex Wedge type pads around my room and can't believe the difference it makes to the monitoring quality. Now I need a basstrap and I'll be sorted.

I got mine for free from a generous friend, but you don't need many, (certainly not as many as they show used in the photos!), so it won't cost too much.

Here's what I'm talking about:

Hell, I was just checking out studio foam prices on ebay, that's the way to go!

JWilburn wrote:For anyone interested, I just picked up the Focusrite Saffire for $299 from my local Guitar Center. It's listed at $399 on their own web site, and several other sites I looked at, so the $100 savings made it that much easier to decide.

I also grabbed some Senheiser HD 280 Pro headphones based on a recommendation from Meffy and reviews I read online as a result of his suggestion.

Still haven't decided on a mic yet, and have to learn my software all over again, but hopefully I can contribute some music to the site in the weeks to come.

Thanks again!
Wow, sounds like you got a good deal on the Saffire, congrats! It was probably best to just go out buy something rather than listen to a bunch of gearheads argue about their favorite mic, I'd have done the same thing. Talking about this stuff gives me an uncontrollable urge to grab the Visa and go crazy. :tu:

Gonna have to check out that studio foam padding Jackson was mentioning over on Ebay now...

Don't forget to check out OpenLabs.com, they got some very nice stuff. I just received my MiKo recently, and it does make the studio looks better. ;-) And no, I don't work for those guys, I just love their stuff, that's all.

OpenLabs appears to be a small bit outside of my budget. :)

On the issue of controller room tuning, can anyone recommend a book or site where I can learn more about this. I don't think my first instinct of gluing foam to the wall in the shape of pretty patterns would give me optimal results.

Edit: I just found this site from the site provided earlier by Jackson.

Seems to be a good place to start for anyone else interested.
