"i have tried to search on the net for good sampling tutorials but not found any yet.
i have never really got into sampling until now.
what im having trouble with is. I have sampled a synth note from a record and placed it in my sampler. I know if i play higher than an octave it sounds rubbish."

That's called Munchkinization.

"Im wanting to play a melody with this note but want to go higher than a octave how do i do it? im using abletons "simpler" not the new sampler
thanks for any help on this[/quote]"

You're only going to be able to play a very weird melody if you sample just one note from a record.

Any beats in the sample (like LFO stuff) will also play twice as fast (or twice as slow) each octave away from the original sample.

Beg, borrow or steal commercial sampling disks that you can easily convert into .wav or your native sound format. A lot of these instrument samples are already set up for multisampling and can be set up on a softsampler.

Start with a 3 or 4 "zone" bass line and work your way up to per key multisamples.

First off, start here. It's a good explanation on how a synth and a sampler differ, which is critical to know. Next, head over to this page scroll down to 'Sampling Tutorials' section. Lastly, i'd recommend to read the SOS "The Lost Art of Sampling" article, since it's longer, more detailed, and covers a lot of ground. BTW, isn't it time this thread be made a sticky?
